Use Captivate for FLV to SWF. Help me out!

My problem is as follows;

I have a .wmvfile who I need to be a swffile. So I've decided to use Captivate since the several benefits it's offering.

Captivate imports flash .flv and my videofile is in a.wmv. So. The first step for me is to convert the wmvfile to .flv. After that, I've imported the .flv into Captivate. So far so good!

After some editing, I'm ready to save my file and publish my Captivateproject to a .swf and everything goes as planned. I can preview my project and all. The problems begins when I'm leaving the environment of Captivate. The .swf file is supposed to be implemented in another program, and it doesn't work.

Is there anyone who recognize this kind of problem?

I've tried simulationrecordings in Captivate, published them as .swf's and that works. So. The problem must be located in Captivate in connection with flashmovies.

Hi Shoeegal,

What do you mean by leaving Captivate environment? The .swf file is supposed to be implemented in another program...???

For swf file to play, you need to have Flash Player installed in your system.

There are 3 types of Flash Players.

1. Standalone Flash Player - An executable to run swf files

2. ActiveX Flash Player - Used by Internet Explorer

3. Plugin Flash Player - Used by Plugin browsers like Firefox etc.

Publish the project to a folder from Captivate. In that folder you will find .htm, .swf, .js and a .flv.

You need to have .swf and .flv both in the same location.

Hope this helps,

Ravi Kishore.

Hi Ravi!

Yes!

I need Captivate to edit, and convert my .flv to .swf. We have another program, an educationtool, that I want to import this swf file into (it can't import .flv)

Other .swffiles created in Captivate, when I've, for example, recorded a software simulation and published it as .swf, it worked in this other program we use.

But, the .swf that includes flashmovie, flv, can be previewed in Captivate, but in the other program, only the skin of the player is visible.

So, Flash is installed in our system. And the other program manages flashformat .swf.

I've published the project, and I got the folder that you're writing about. And the .swf is working when I use IE or Firefox, but it's not working properly in the other program, the educationtool.

Do you know what can be wrong here?

Anyway, thank you SO MUCH for taking the time and read & answer my question!

Hi Jannice,

First thing Captivate dont convert .flv to .swf.

May be in your education tool, there is some option to add a resource for the swf file.

If so, then add the flv file and its skin which are present along with the swf file in the captivate published output folder.

Hi Ravi,

Maybe that's the problem, but why can I import flv if it cant export as swf?

Is it possible that the flvfile only can be viewed as htmlfile but not swffile?

Hi Jannice,

In Captivate flv file added to the swf are external, and they have to be in the same directory as that of the swf.

This means the movie won't play swf until doesn't find the flv.

As long as we do not know how/where the swf is added by the "Education Tool", captivate swf cannot play.

What kind of output do you generate with "Education Tool" you are mentioning.

If its a single file, try putting the flv in that location.

Hi there

Captivate simply plays the FLV. It doesn't convert it. At least it doesn't to my knowledge. Perhaps Ravi can expound on that.

Cheers... Rick
