RoboHelp 8 Issues

I recently upgraded my version of RoboHelp from version X5 to version 8. Although everything seemed to work fine when i was trialling the software on a copy of my project now that i have migrated the project to RoboHelp 8 i am having a few issues. The only thing that has really changed is that i am now using Visual SourceSafe in conjunction with RoboHelp but i never had problems with this setup when using X5.

Anyway my two issues are as follows:

1. If i align an image to the centre using the justify icon, the image does what i want in the topic view but remains aligned to the left in both preview mode and once i have generated the topics. Have tried playing about with the image settings, text wrapping etc but still no joy.

2. My other issue is that i previously had a number of styles that used specific images as buullet points. However there is now no way i can add these images as bullet styles in the style editor screen. Am i able to change this for styles, as it is currently very annoying when i apply these bullet styles to text. They automatically default to using numbering.

Any advice on these issues would be much appreciated.

On [1], try center align rather than justify.

For point 2, try this:

  1. Open the 'Styles and Formatting' pod.
  2. From the drop down menu choose 'List Styles'.
  3. Create or edit a list style.  The 'Styles' dialog box will appear.
  4. Under 'Formatting', click the bullets icon.
  5. On the 'Bulleted' tab, click on the 5th bullet style (it has search icons for bullets).
  6. Under 'Bullet image', click on the search icon and find the image you want for your bullets
  7. Click OK and OK again and job done, that list style has an image.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice Euromatt. I didn't realise list sytles were kept seperately and it seems i can only get the images from my exisiting styles when i select them from this menu and not when i use the all available styles menu - wierd!

Regarding issue 1 Peter. I'm sorry if i confused you but i actually meant the align center button when i said the justify icon in my original post - even using this button the images still seem to align to the left when generated. Any other ideas?

As long as you've clicked on the image before clicking on the centre icon all should be well.  If you switch from Design view to HTML view, you can check that the align attribute is within the paragraph tags.  For example:

<p align="center"><img src="images/example_image.jpg" alt="This is an example image" style="border: none;" width="400" height="300" border="0" /></p>

Even if i make sure i have clicked on the image first and then click align centre, when i preview the page the image is still aliugned left. Looking at the HTML for an image, and the align attribute is present:

<p align="center"><img src="../entry field - pop-up help.bmp" alt="" style="border: none;"
       width="287" height="35" border="0" /></p>

The above is taken from an example in my project. Am not sure what else i can do to try and fix this.

Create a new project, import this topic (it will bring the image with it).

Same problem in the new project? Zip up this one topic project and send it via http://www.cutesendit.com with a link to this thread.

Try removing all spaces from your image files (use underscores instead), such as:

     src="../entry_field_pop-up_help.bmp"

Good luck,

Having sent Peter Grainge a test project with the problem in it, he managed to push me in the right direction and after a bit of trial and error i found the source of the problem. The basic issue was with my CSS file and two of the styles in that file were causing problems and overriding the alignement of images etc in topics. In each case, in the CSS file there was a class under the style called 'text-align'. In one case this had the property 'left' in one case and 'justify'. Once i deleted these two lines from the CSS file and then saved it, i was able to move images to the centre etc. My thinking is that this is a result of moving from Version X5 to verison 8 and the class being different in each version so though i would share my experiences here in case anyone else has the same experience. Once again thanks fro the help Peter!

Interesting as any such definition in the topic should override anything in the CSS. As your topic had the paragraph defined as Center, that is what you should get, no matter what is in the CSS.

Assuming you found this in the test project you created, please send that to me again with the changes so that I can compare.

Ahh, now you mention it I've actually come across a similar problem.  I created a series of table styles and saved them to default.css.  My colleague then used one of these tables styles with a fill colour of her own choosing.  In design view she saw the table with the dark blue fill colour she wanted, but in the output it was still a yellow fill colour (as defined in default.css).  I had to create an additional table style to overcome the problem (it was going to be used multiple times anyway).  For some reason I didn't relate that issue with your alignment problem.  Sorry about that.

I have looked some more at Rob's project.

First I stripped all the content except an image and some text I put in. All the content including images was set as <p class="BodyText">.

I then stripped the CSS leaving just the <p> tag and the BodyText class and I stripped them of everything except text alignment. That gave me the following CSS

p {
    text-align: justify;
}
p.BodyText {
    text-align: left;
}

Based on that, everything should be left aligned but in fact it is justified in the Design Editor. In Preview it is left aligned as it should be.

Then I clicked on an image and centred it. That gave me

<p class="BodyText" align="center">

So based on that being inline, it should override the CSS. It does in the Design Editor but in Preview it is incorrectly left aligned. I then generated an output and it was the same as the Preview.

I believe that this is a bug and should be reported.

Has anyone else reported the center alignment problem?  I reported it to Adobe and have not received a reply. Does anyone have a fix besides a clever way to override it? I have a rather large project, and it is quite time consuming to have to select every image and caption and reformat them. I have already gone into my .css file and resaved the caption style. I found that assigning the caption style to the paragraph return after an image puts it in the center, but the caption style has to be selected from the drop-down menu, not the styles and formatting pod. The S&F pod doesn't seem to be working.

If anyone has any suggestions or information, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Nothing else to offer. It is a bug so we have to wait for a patch.

Bummer. Thanks for your response. I did check out your site and found it helpful. I fixed my running slow problem by adding the BaseCSS...dll file in the en.us folder. I wonder if there is a connection with the bug since "CSS" is a part of that dll name. Anyway, thanks for your help. I'll keep waiting.

Have a good day.

Sorry but that's for Adobe to know.

They never announce patch plans or release dates in advance.

Okay, thanks for your reply. After I read, that you reported it in June to Adobe, I thought that there could be a solution by now. So we have to wait any longer. I still wonder why there have not been any updates on RoboHelp 8 by now. RoboHelp 7 had three updates (am I right?)!

Yes RH7 did have three updates. However and as indicated, only Adobe know the answer to your question about RH8 and it is not information they ever publish.

I don't know what else you expect me to say other than I feel your pain, I am working with the issues as well.

The last two sentences of my last post were only thoughts that I've written down. So they don't have to be answered .

Besides, isn't this a forum for adobe products/software and adobe is offering this forum? Perhaps someone, who could help us, is reading this just now and in a few days there will be an update (just dreaming).

Adobe provide the forum for users to help each other. It is a peer to peer forum.

Sometimes Adobe will respond to technical questions but this doesn't fall into that category. It would have been much easier for me to say next week, next month or next year.

I think I have said sufficient times in this thread that Adobe do not issue such information in advance. RH will prompt you when an update is available.
