    New version...old files????

    Tom Mullica Community Member

I'm upgrading from Premier Pro 2.0 to CS3.  Do I open my 2.0 project files into CS3 and go from there or do I have to change my old files to work with CS3.  Does the location of all my old files matter...will my projects find all the files I need.  When I see the location of my old files, they are listed under premier pro 2.0 directory.  Do I have to copy/paste all my old files to the new directory with CS3?  HELP.

          Welcome to the forums.

No, you do not need to do anything special, however I would recommend that when you open a 2.0 project in CS3, save it to a new name. That way you will be able to open the original project in 2.0 if you ever need to.

You will also find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.

          Cheers

            Eddie...

THANKS very much for the advice.  Would you suggest deleting 2.0

before installing CS3 or keeping them both until all is understood?

Is there much of a learning curve for CS3?  I learned 2.0 with Adobe

Premier's classroom in a book so yesterday ordered classroom in a book

            for CS3.

Thanks again for taking the time to write/help.

I would recommend keeping 2.0 around for a while, especially if you are in the middle of some projects. Complete them first and only start new projects in CS3.

There are some new features you are going to like in CS3. The tutorials I pointed you to will cover the changes, as will the Clasroom in a Book.

Otherwise CS3 works much the same as 2.0 did.

              Cheers

Eddie has already covered this, but I wish to "second" his rec. for doing a Save_As with an incremented name, or similar. If not, and something happens, you will not be able ot go back.

Also, other than CS3 having Encore bundled with it and a bit more linking via DL, there will be little difference - oh, and HD support in CS3.

The only problem I've seen with versions co-existing was when one installed CS4 after CS3, and then they subsequently uninstalled CS3. This took some necessary CS4 files with it. Have not heard of any issues between PrPro 2.0 and CS3.

                Good luck,
