1. Re: Fading garbage mask with scrolling text
Harm Millaard Jun 30, 2009 11:59 AM (in response to David Zeno)I would use Pixelan SpiceMaster for that. Imagine the shot below to be your scrolling text, when it gets to the top of the screen it turns transparent and disappears.
When you combine this you can use scrolling titles like these with an increasing transparency at the top, like this one, where the top transparency was not yet added, but could very easily be made with SpiceMaster.

Ann Bens Jun 30, 2009 11:39 AM (in response to David Zeno)Add a cross dissolve.

3. Re: Fading garbage mask with scrolling text
Harm Millaard Jun 30, 2009 11:44 AM (in response to Ann Bens)One drawback, you can't position the cross dissolve to only apply to the top of the screen. You want your text to be visible in the lower parts and only fade out at the top. Cross dissolve does not do that.

shooternz Jun 30, 2009 12:42 PM (in response to David Zeno)a Gradient WIpe Transition may work in this situation

Bill Hunt Jun 30, 2009 12:51 PM (in response to shooternz)If one did not have Pixelan Spice (great titler, BTW), I'd go with either Craig's Gradient Wipe, or a feathered Track Matte Keying. The amount of feather will dictate the point and the degree of "fade." I would not try to use Garbage Matte, as you will only get hard edges, and that's not what you want.
Good luck,
Hunt

Ann Bens Jun 30, 2009 12:59 PM (in response to Harm Millaard)Ok in that case use a linear wipe which can be feathered.

shooternz Jun 30, 2009 1:47 PM (in response to Ann Bens)Linear wipe is what I meant also (Not gradient)

Bill Hunt Jun 30, 2009 4:21 PM (in response to shooternz)And then you sucked me into your web of deceit, and I did not read carefully enough. I don't know that I can trust you again!
To the OP - don't believe Craig, and only half of what I said. Ann corrected us both!
Good luck,

Harm Millaard Jun 30, 2009 4:33 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Bill,
If one doesn't have SpiceMaster, one should get it. Next to Movie Looks, it is the best plugin to get.
Btw, it is not a titler, it is a spice application. It comes with hundreds of spices and is fabulous for wipes, dissolves, etc. without looking 'cheesy'. And what I especially like about it is that Michael Feerer, the founding partner, is extremely helpful and supportive. He gives support that could be an example for many companies, including Adobe. David Newman (Cineform) and Michael Feerer both rank very highly with me.
Have a look at what it can do for your productions: http://www.pixelan.com/sm25/intro.htm

Bill Hunt Jun 30, 2009 4:35 PM (in response to Harm Millaard)Harm,
I do agree. Going back some years ago, you recommended it to me, and I bought it, without even a trial. I love the program, though probably have never scratched the surface of what it can do.
Hunt
PS even now, thanks for that long ago recommendation.

David Zeno Jul 2, 2009 2:52 PM (in response to David Zeno)Hello everyone,
Thank you for all the helpful information !
Harm's suggestion is very nice, I'll have to check more into this add-on for PP. It looks very powerful. I checked it out quickly on their
website, and it looks like a truly wonderful program. ( I've never heard of it before )
Thanks for the suggestion of using the linear wipe, - that did the trick !, I have never used this before, and after playing with it for just 10 mins
I realized many things that it can do. Very powerful indeed.
It worked exactly like I wanted it to work, so I am very thankful for the suggestion !
Dave.
