I'm using RH 7 and would like to create a browse sequence using my project's table of contents. I followed the RH's online help instructions (Tools > Browse Sequence Editor > Auto-create using TOC), and then in the Project Set-up pod, under the Windows properties, selected the Browse Sequences check box. I saved the project, and then generated Microsoft HTML Help, which is my primary layout. No browse sequence is displayed in my project. I am wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that I have several files in various folders "excluded" (using conditional build tags) Can anyone help?

The first thing to check is that you have the HHACTIVEX.DLL file installed and registered on your PC. If you haven't you can download it - it is a freely distributable file. Secondly check the topics that have conditional build tags. Is the conditional build tag expression you have set-up in your single source layout excluding all the topics in your browse sequence?

I do have the .dll file. Some folders have individual topics excluded; other folders are excluded all together. Don't know what to do from here . . .

Hi there
Have you created or edited your Window defiinition? That part is also necessary to show the sequence.
Click View > Pods > Project set up.
Expand the Windows pseudo folder.
You should see at least one icon representing a window. (see image below)
Note the CHM window doesn't have a globe superimposed.
Double click the CHM window. (if it's present - If not, right-click and choose New Window to create one)
Ensure the dialog has a check mark for Browse Sequences.
Cheers... Rick

Hi -
Yes, I have edited the Window definition; but the browse sequence still doesn't work. I think that it must be the conditional tags I associated with several topics. Some folders contain topics that I have excluded; other folders have been excluded all together.

Hello again
By chance do you have multiple versions of RoboHelp installed? I do and I'm unable to coax the Browse Sequence bar into a CHM I compile using RoboHelp 8.
You may be onto a bug. I'd strongly encourage you to report as same to Adobe. (Link is in my sig line)
A parting question here. Does it show if you create a new project?
Ohhh, and another question or two just popped in.
Do you have more than one Window definition?
Is your primary layout configured to be Microsoft HTML Help?
Cheers... Rick

Hi Rick -
I do not have multiple versions of RoboHelp installed on my machine. The browse sequence worked with a new project, but it won't work with my established project (which has "exclude" conditional tags for some topics in several folders and some folders that are excluded all together). I do have more than one window definition, but the only one that is used is the "secondary" window. I attempted to enable browse sequence for both (main and secondary), but it still would not work. My primary layout is Microsoft HTML Help. The project is NOT in source control. I inherited the project, which had multiple tech writers building it since 2002. Also, since attempting to enable a browse sequence, the project opens very, very slowly. So I removed the browse sequence and performance increase somewhat, but it takes a long time to open. The project is not that large - 900 topics. Any additional thoughts . . .
Regards,
Denise

Hi there
You seem to be curious if the Conditional Build Tags and Build Expression have any bearing on things. I'm thinking they won't but you never know. Sometimes odd things happen.
I would think it would be easy to test. Just create a new layout by right-clicking the Singe Source Layouts pod and choosing to create a new layout. Create a CHM using no build expression and see. If the sequence area shows, great! Then try applying the Build Expression and compile again to see what happens.
Cheers... Rick

This may be a long shot, but I once experimented with adding the line
<body onLoad="self.focus()"> "
to all my topics, in order to set the focus into the main window (rather than the ToC or header). This broke the browse sequence; see thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/50375
Do you have any <body onLoad javascript?
