1. Re: Can I have my camera record HDV to tape while OnLocation records a SD version ?
Basilio Alferow Jun 13, 2009 5:02 AM (in response to Powered by Design)OnLocation will record whatever is output on the camera's FireWire connection. So your question is really "can the camera output SD over FW as it records HD on tape?" While I highly doubt that there's a camera that can or will do that, stranger things have been known to happen. Of course there's probably some type of hardware converter that can do that (take in HD and output SD), but it would probably be a pricey item.

Powered by Design Jun 13, 2009 5:42 AM (in response to Basilio Alferow)Thanks.
Thats what I was thinking.
Maybe someday they will make this a feature on cameras now that more and more are going to HD.
Then again maybe we could get rid of SD all together and move to HD.
I know for me when watching TV if i have a choice I only watch HD.
Got to dream.
Thanks again.

jpleong Jul 2, 2009 9:19 AM (in response to Powered by Design)It's fully possible to do this -like the other poster said, check your your camera. Some cameras offer SD down-conversion out of the firewire port whilst capturing to tape in HDV. I know the Sony Prosumer cameras do this so check your manual.

4. Re: Can I have my camera record HDV to tape while OnLocation records a SD version ?
Powered by Design Jul 3, 2009 4:06 AM (in response to jpleong)I have a Sony HVR Z1U
I believe that might be true about shooting in HDV and capturing in SD but what I really wanted to do was shoot in HDV and capture in HDV and SD at the same time so I didnt have to go back.
I guess it was just a wish.
Thats OK I can live with one version for now.
Thanks:

Kindari Sep 22, 2009 8:09 AM (in response to Powered by Design)Have you considered just keeping the whole project in HDV? HDV isn't that much bigger than DV and you can just do your final renders for mpeg-DVD as SD resolution, then have it ready for an HD render later.
