1. Re: Bridge CS3 Preview won't begin to Play unless "nudged"
Curt Y Jul 7, 2009 7:26 PM (in response to BruceM3)Don't know if this is the same issue or not. Some downloaded movie clips will play, but they will not start automatically, and one can not use the slider to change which part of video to view. Solution is to use Windows Utility Media File Editor and add a marker at beginning (found this info online awhile back).
Am not a video guy so not sure what that does, but do know that then the clip behaves normally. Perhaps it needs a marker, whatever that is.

2. Re: Bridge CS3 Preview won't begin to Play unless "nudged"
BruceM3 Jul 12, 2009 10:22 AM (in response to Curt Y)Thanks for the reply Curt. I've got thousands of HDV clips so I'd prefer to not have to run all of them through another utility to add a marker. Not sure if that's the issue anyway from your description.
If someone with Bridge would be so kind as to try this short 5 second clip of nothing to see if it will Preview by simply hitting Play, I'd appreciate their feedback. http://www.suncoastlegalvideo.com/hdv.M2T
At least then I'd know if it's an issue with the HDV file format, or something with my setup. TIA.

3. Re: Bridge CS3 Preview won't begin to Play unless "nudged"
Curt Y Jul 12, 2009 11:26 AM (in response to BruceM3)Downloaded clip and when viewed in Bridge the video clip played automatically.
Things to check. In preferences/playback do you have the box checked to plaly video automaticlally when previewed?
In pref/Thumbnails in the box - do not process files larger than xxx meg - put your video out of range?

4. Re: Bridge CS3 Preview won't begin to Play unless "nudged"
BruceM3 Jul 12, 2009 2:41 PM (in response to Curt Y)Thanks for checking out that clip. It must be something on my system - I'm suspecting it's possibly a codec from Nero ShowTime.
I did double-check the two items you suggested. The "play automatically" box does as it should and tries to start playing the clip, but just as if I were to hit Space it simply freezes at the first frame. In the thumbnails size box I've entered 999MB with no change.
Again, it's not that the clips won't play at all in Preview. They will play if I nudge the scrub bar. They'll also play from the start if I first play them to the end. It's just the very first time you try to play (or autoplay) the clips, they won't go. Strange...
Well, thanks again for trying and if anyone has any other suggestions I'd appreciate them.
