    Wow-Crash City!

    Shao Lung Community Member

I just installed CS4 Production Premium.....and.....if I import a standard captured AVI clip into Pro( it was captured in CS3) - CRASH! MPEG - crash! All clips import and/or captured into CS3 fine. Anyone else run into this? Where should I start troubleshooting? I can't even edit a second on the timeline, nothing works in Pro. When I import a clip, you can see the thumbnail fine, just when I got to play it - crash! Place on timeline.....it conforms (but no audio wave form appears) and - crash!

Thanks for any and all help.

If you are using the trial version, beware that there is no support for MPEG at all. For the rest, look at this link and also look at the two links inside this message, the first for troubleshooting and ending with 16 questions in the Finally section, the second more generic where the latter part may give you some hints on data required to help you.

With similar situations, the process usually breaks down this way, and pretty much in this order:

            1.) System

            2.) Assets

            3.) Project

Without all details (at the end of the link in Harm's post), no one will know for sure.

For some System troubleshooting, you might find some help in this ARTICLE.

            Good luck,

Found the problem - in copying over some plug-in files from CS3 that I have had for years, I mistakenly copied over the AISO.PRM file from 2005. When Pro tried painting the sound wave file, I got a crash-expectedly, of course.

Good news, and I hope that fixes the crashes too. Thanks for reporting.

It's always a good idea for one to use the 'bare' version of a program before adding things to it, just to make sure it works.

I agree completely. Even with Photoshop, I've found many 3rd party Filters that fritzed up a new installation. I always work with it, and then go slowly with even things like Actions and Brushes, especially as there have been some recent changes in how PS handles these. Evenything gets added, one at a time, and then tested.
