1. Re: different radius corners on one object
Zeno Bokor Jul 28, 2009 11:27 PM (in response to RogerPaine)select the Fill of the object in the Appearance panel and go to Effect->Stylize->Round Corners. Add another Fill to that object, select it and apply another Round Corners effect to it

2. Re: different radius corners on one object
RogerPaine Jul 28, 2009 11:59 PM (in response to Zeno Bokor)I don't see how that works - I want a quadrilateral with different
radii on each corner; one might be 5mm the next 10mm... I can't make
your method do anything like that. Currently, I draw the shape and cut
the sides so that I have four unconnected corners and apply round
corners separately to each one then I have to expand them before I can
join them back together. The resulting shape is not live.

3. Re: different radius corners on one object
[scott] Jul 29, 2009 12:27 AM (in response to RogerPaine)Can't really do it in any way other than what you are already doing unless you manually draw each corner.
There's definitely no way to do it with a live shape.

4. Re: different radius corners on one object
Zeno Bokor Jul 29, 2009 12:32 AM (in response to RogerPaine)sorry, i misunderstood your question at first. As far as i know, there's no easy way to get what you want. You could make a rectangle with 4 fills and apply Round Corners and Transform effects to them. It would looks something like this, only with the same colored fill so they'll all look like a single shape.
You need to add 4 fills, apply the Effect->Stylize->Round Corners effect first and then use Effect->Distort & Transform->Transform on that same fill, set the origin point of the transformation in one of the 4 corners and then reduce it's Horizontal and Vertical scale. Do the same for each of the 4 fills. Each of them should have a seperate corner point as the origin point for the transformation and make sure that the Transform effect is above the Round Corners effect -
5. Re: different radius corners on one object
RogerPaine Jul 29, 2009 1:11 AM (in response to RogerPaine)Thanks for that you blokes...
I found away to do it: there is a plug-in that has a fillet tool - click the offending corner and enter the fillet radius - every corner can be different. They are not live though. Oh well cant have everything - yet.
I've noticed that all the 3D apps like SolidThinking do allow live fillets on shapes but they also have a whole lot of other stuff which makes them harder to use.

Mario Arizmendi Jul 29, 2009 6:06 AM (in response to RogerPaine)There is an script named "RoundAnyCorner By SATO Hiroyuk, works great and its free, thanks to him for sharing.

Ignatius Fay Nov 5, 2009 11:07 AM (in response to RogerPaine)A relatively inexpensive plugin set called XtreamPath (www.cvalley.com/products/xtreampath/) contains a plugin that allows you to take a square-cornered rectangle and round each corner individually, using either a prescribed radius or doing it freeform, 'by eye'. Works very well.

Jacob Bugge Nov 5, 2009 11:28 AM (in response to Ignatius Fay)As does Round Any Corner, which is free.

It's good to talk to oneselves... it maintains an element of sanity

14. Re: different radius corners on one object
JETalmage Nov 6, 2009 7:12 AM (in response to RogerPaine)If you get accustomed to using a couple of keyboard shortcuts (to invoke the white pointer and the scale tool) and using SmartGuides, you can adjust the radius of a rounded corner fairly quickly by using SmartGuides to locate the intersection of perpendicular sides (and/or Construction Guide angles you are using), and then scaling the two associated anchorPoints.
Yes, like everything else in this program, it's a workaround for basic, but missing, functionality.

15. Re: different radius corners on one object
RogerPaine Nov 8, 2009 4:50 PM (in response to JETalmage)Plenty of feed back on this topic!
I'm still going with the action I posted above - it works fine except for the dismembering of the path from the unselected corners. If I need different radius corners on a rectangle I insert a Path>add anchor points step before the cut step. You can keep the round corners live until you need to join the path for a fill &c., at which point, you have to expand appearance.

RogerPaine Nov 8, 2009 9:41 PM (in response to Harron K. Appleman)this one works quite well on simple shapes
