    A bug?

    Shlomit Heymann Community Member

      Hi all,

Yesterday I've done something and did not get a good results. I will be very happy if someone can try it on a US version so we can see if it an ME bug or not.

Or maybe it is not a but at all....

I had to create signs for an exhibition.

On each sign there was a sentence, begins with a digit.

Since the digit were supose to be in increasing order I thought it would be a great idea to use the special charater "current page number" so on each page of my document the sentece will begin with a differen digit. I've also used the Drop caps on 1 character and 2 lines.

What happen was the till page 9 it looked good but on page 10 and up there was a different behaviour.

So I created a "Left to Right" text frame and did just the same for English to see if it behaves the same and it's not as you can see here:

here is a Sample for 1 digit:

and here is a sample for 2 digit:

      2digitScreenshot.jpg

I was wondering if the behaviour is the same on the US version, I was wondering if this is bug or a missusage of this feature which would have saved great time to me.

I've also found out that when releasing the text frames from the master  to the page, the results changes to good ones but than i'm loosing the whole point of saving time, here is the sreenshot:

Would be happy for reaction about that before I'll post the bug (I'm not looking for a workaround).

      thank you all:)

It appears to work as you would expect here, but I have no way to compare to what it might do with RTL since I can't do that.

Why not use a numbered list instead?

The text of the text box is not changing only the number so I put it in the master, thinking it would work faster like that.

every page I add will get the number automatically but it didn't do a good job.

ok, I will report the bug.

            thanks

It appears to be a World-Ready Composer bug, although the Standard composer is not a whole lot better -- it adds too much space for the number.

Here's the difference between the two composers:

                Hi Herbs,

The only strgane thing is that it behaves ok when the text frame is released to the page so i'm not sure about that....

Yes. That's because InDesign treats page number markers on master

pages differently than page number markers on regular pages. For the

ones on master pages, it calculates the space required to place three

                  digits (I believe).
