1. Re: How do you make a title just fade away
terry lee martin Aug 9, 2009 5:32 PM (in response to terry lee martin)I figured this out myself. If you are interested the way you do it is actually quite simple. Once you put a title onto the timeline, just left click it one time. This will open up the effect controls window. Click the triangle to the left of the word Opacity to open up that section. If you want to have the disapearing effect start at the beginning and end at the end, just place your timeline Bar indicator at the very beginning of the title box, where the title starts and then go up to the effect control window. If you look to the right of the work Opacity, there is a diamond shape. When you point at it, it says add/remove keyframes. Click this button one time. You will notice that it placed a diamond shaped object in your title box in the timeline. Now do the same thing at the end of your Title box where you want the text to be totally gone. Now simply click on that same diamond shaped object and pull it to the bottom of the box. The yellow line that goes across the center of the box will now angle down to the right. Your title will start at full opacity, and gradually go to 0 opacity at it gets to the end of the title box. You can reverse it to make the title gradually appear from nothing. You can put as many keyframe diamonds in the title box as you want, and then play with them to make it fade in, then out, and back again if you want to.

Bill Hunt Aug 10, 2009 7:36 PM (in response to terry lee martin)Terry,
I could be wrong, but isn't this something that one would do in PrPro?
Now, if one wanted a Menu (in Encore) to "fade away," they could create (in PrPro) a Button Transition to do that.
Good luck,

terry lee martin Aug 10, 2009 8:14 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Yes, I'm very sorry. I keep forgetting that Encore and PPCS4 are separate programs. Yes, you do indeed create fading titles in PPCS4. I finally figured it out today. All that is necessary is to Put the new title on the timeline. Then place the timeline indicator bar, or whatever that thing is called, at the front of the title box on your timeline. Open up the effects control box, and expand the opacity box. Click the little diamond on the right side, and this will add a keyframe to the beginning of your title. Go to the end of the title box and click the diamond again to add a key frame to that end. Then just grab the keyframe on the right and pull it down. The title will disappear over the length of the time that it is on your screen.
Thank you Hunt. Also thank you for the advice about the book. I do appreciate it.

Bill Hunt Aug 10, 2009 8:27 PM (in response to terry lee martin)Terry,
As of CS3, the "boundaries" between the two programs has become horribly blurred. Usually, the Encore questions end up in the PrPro forum. I, and John T. Smith, try to direct those here. The main reason is that there are several great contributors, who do not hang out in the PrPro fora. To miss out on their comments would leave the OP short of answers. Several folk spend time in both.
The same applies to PrPro issues and questions. There is some overlap between forum lurkers, but there are many PrPro gurus, who seldom stop by here.
Glad that you appreciated the direction, as too many do not. They wonder why no one on the PrPro forum will help them with Encore issues, and resent the re-direction. It is not out of malice, but out of a desire to get the best possible help.
In your cases, you have found the answers, before we could comment. That is great news! After all, it's about helping people use Adobe programs, or getting a Project out the door, that drives us.
Do find a copy of Jeff's book. It is great and is still going strong. I think that more copies have been sold since CS3, than during the run of EncoreDVD 2.0. All too many folk get hung up on the version numbers. That is their problem, as they are missing out on a great resouce. After my copy of DVD Demystified, by Jim Tayor and others, Jeff's book is my "go-to" volume. Also, Jeff's book is only about 200 pages, where DVD Demystified is about 1000!
As you can tell by now, I am a "book-person," and collect all of the helpful ones in my library.
Good luck,
Hunt
