Any known issues with using the Duplicate Topic option in RH8?

Before I plough on and use this option I thought I'd ask if there were any known issues with this feature in RH8. I seem to recall once upon a time it was not a good idea with earlier versions.

I'm not aware of any but even if there were, so what? A duplicate is an exact copy of another topic with just a new file and topic name. Just be aware that the new topic will only contain the topic content (including any master page/style sheet association) but not any index keywords, mapids, status, etc.

Hi there

For the history record, I think it was RoboHelp 2002. It wasn't the Duplicate Topic function, but the act of rapidly opening one topic when another was open in the editor. There was a bug that was present for a brief while that we lovingly named the "Topic Snatcher" bug. It caused the newly opened topic to be overwritten with the contents of the one that was just open.

Another bug that seems to have gone away...  In RH5, when I duplicated a topic and renamed it before saving it (changed the Duplicate of X topic name to a unique topic name), RH would save both new topics - the Duplicate Of and the renamed. Had to purge the Duplicate of topics manually.  That doesn't seem to be happening here in RH7, and I would assume, won't happen in RH8.

Different bug Rick. I remember the Topic Snatcher but that is not what is being discussed here. There was a feature meant to create a duplicate but it had a bug.
