1. Re: Find/Change in Section Marker
[Jongware] Aug 12, 2009 8:25 AM (in response to dtpartner_Suzz)The Section Marker may be becoming obsolete, as text variables can do the same and have more options. I used Section markers for running heads, but I can't even remember last time I used it ...
You cannot change something inside a text variable, but if it's based upon some text in your document, it will change when the original text is changed.
At the moment, the text inside a Custom Variable will also not be found, so there is still plenty room for improvement.

dtpartner_Suzz Aug 12, 2009 8:38 AM (in response to [Jongware])@Jongware, never thought about using Text Variables as a Section/Section Marker on my masterpages.I am very curious how you use the Text Variables as a Section Marker. Can you tell me more about it...

3. Re: Find/Change in Section Marker
[Jongware] Aug 12, 2009 1:14 PM (in response to dtpartner_Suzz)I used it to insert new running heads per chapter. Insert the Section Marker symbol into a large enough text frame onto a single master page. Then set every chapter to use a new section, and copy its title into the Section Marker field in the Page Numbering panel.
Using variables is alike, but much easier, because you define the variable to pick up the latest text in a style named so-and-so, and then you don't have to worry anymore about did-I-add-a-section-already and what-if-I-insert-pages. It's all in the Help.
[Added] And if the chapter title changes, the variable is updated automatically.
