    Installing Upgrade

      Hi

I know this question may have been asked before, and I have looked to see if I can find a suitable reply that would satisfy my question, but without luck.

I have just bought a MacBook Pro and I want to install my version of PSCS4.In the past I have just upgraded from PSCS, then to PSCS2, then to PSCS3 and finally to PSCS4.  Now I know that I was advised to leave PSCS3 on my G5 Desk top as CS4 needed some of the stuff on 3! (don't know!) Which I did, and it has worked fine.  However, my question is, can I just take my PSCS4 upgrade and load it straight on to my MacBook, or do I need the original 'complete' version on the laptop first (because the PSCS4 version is only an upgrade?)

      Hope that makes sense

      Thanks

      Mark

I'm not an expert, but I would think that the PSCS4 installer will prompt you for previous serials to confirm that you are allowed to upgrade.

The prompt will be activated when the installer is not able to find any version residing on your MacBook Pro.

So just keep some previous serials in reach.

            PS:

Or you will need the original Disc from previos versions.

How exactly the install is gonna flow I'm not sure, but I'm sure you don't need to install prior versions!

The advice in this forum is really going down hill now that Adobe has run off most the regulars.

Every version of Photoshop is a separate install that is not dependent on any other version. With an Upgrade you just need the serial number of the previous version. Thats it. I like to keep older versions around because I can go back and see how things were done in earlier versions. I have almost all them going back to version 2.5.1. Another reason to keep a previous version is if you can't do it in the new version because of the changes made you have a fall back.

So when you install PSCS4 if the installer can't find a the previous version you upgraded from you need to enter the serial number of the previous version.

                Please elaborate, I'm curious!

Was my answer SO down-hill - or was it because I was not a 100% sure on which of my suggestions would be the correct answer?

                    Hi Chaps

Thanks for the advice, it all makes sense. The only reason I asked was, when I purchased CS3 upgrade the guy on the UK Adobe PS Help desk told me to leave CS3 on my computer because, the removal would affect the performance of CS4! Hence my concern.

What the F**** is going on at Adobe? It seems that since they became God's right hand they are rapidly losing interest in the customer!! I am already reading messages from fellow Apple Mac users that they are feeling neglected. I can remember a time when it was only Apple users who used PS.

                    Thanks

Well Adobe are not alone in the "Let the Apple Macintosh users come in second" race - sad but unfortunately true .

                      Good luck with the installing.
