1. Re: Edit original > cannot save image
designerdave72 Aug 31, 2009 2:33 AM (in response to claudius X)No, you're not alone. I too have received this error but using Mac OSX and I used to get it using Quark too so it's obviously an Adobe/Photoshop thang! My work around is to save to my desktop then copy it back into the folder where my image resides then relink.

2. Re: Edit original > cannot save image
claudius X Aug 31, 2009 5:06 AM (in response to designerdave72)My solution is just to close InDesign file, save image and reopen InDesign file. There is no need to close InDesign--just file. But I like problems solved, not worked around...

6. Re: Edit original > cannot save image
BobLevine Aug 31, 2009 5:46 AM (in response to claudius X)I'm not sure you'll even find it but it was included in earlier versions of Photoshop to allow Windows Explorer to display thumbnails of PSD file. If you can in fact see those PSD thumbnails then this file is the prime suspect of the problem you're having.
Renaming it, will disable it.

Ozzwoman9 Aug 31, 2009 7:48 AM (in response to claudius X)I thought I read somewhere before that that file was hidden, so you will need to show hidden files (in your control panel) before doing a search.

11. Re: Edit original > cannot save image
claudius X Sep 15, 2009 9:33 AM (in response to claudius X)I've possibly solved the problem. No final proof but system has stabilized. No help from reinstalling and deleting preferences. Then I reorganized/changed my custom workspace panels positions and resaved them under new names and deleted the old ones and that did the trick. So it was some kind of conflict somewhere. I'll start some heavily illustrated projects next week so then I'll know for sure then but for now–10 image edits in a row worked OK.

christrom May 7, 2010 4:37 AM (in response to claudius X)I have had this same problem, but I tried exporting my file as .idml (InDesign Markup) format, and resaved it as a new indesign file. Perhaps try that? - It sorted the problem (up to now) with me.

13. Re: Edit original > cannot save image
bpylant May 7, 2010 2:13 PM (in response to christrom)Maddening, isn't it? As I posted in the Photoshop forum earlier today, I'm not sure how you're supposed to effectively use the Edit Original command if InDesign is holding control of the image file. This never happened with such frequency in older versions (of the suite, or of Mac OS X). Not sure what changed...
The easiest way to get around this is to close the InDesign layout, save the image from Photoshop, then re-open the InDesign doc and update the link. But we shouldn't have to do that...

claudius X May 7, 2010 3:14 PM (in response to christrom)yes, that does the trick. But I just have not figured out why it happens?
That what bothers me.
