combining slideshow and video on timeline

    terry lee martin Community Member

      Hi,

I am working on a video segment that I have brought over to Encore from Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. I created a slide show in Encore CS4 and I now want to insert it into the middle of my video timeline. So I will start out with video, have a slideshow play, and then continue on with video when the slideshow finishes. How do I combine the two?

I am able to create both items separatly and play them back just fine, but I can't figure out how to combine them in order to create a DVD that has both video and slide show playing together.

Split the video timeline in Premiere Pro at the point where you want to

insert the slideshow.  Export or Dynamic Link the first half to Encore,

and then separately export or link the second half.

In Encore, set the end action of the timeline that has the first half of

the video to the Encore slideshow, then set the end action of the

slideshow to the timeline that has the second half of the video.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the responce. I don't really understand completly. I'm sure I am doing something wrong, but when I attempted to follow your directions, I must have missed something. I did as you suggested and used the dynamic link to send the first part of my video from PPCS4 to Encore. Then I went back to PPCS4 and used the dynamic link to send over the second half. When I did that it asked if I wanted to save changes to the project I had created for the first part. If I said yes, it did so and started a new project. If I said no, it just stated a new project with out the first half of the video I had exported. I don't understand how to export the two halves.

From inside Encore, go to File | Adobe Dynamic Link | Import Premiere

Pro Sequence.  That's how to get multiple Pr sequences into a single En

              project.

Post back if you need more help.

Do I understand correctly? If I am splitting a clip in half, in order to place a slide show in the middle of it,  I would need to export those two halves as media and therefore create two separate files, one for each half of the clip. Then It is a simple matter of importing each half into Encore and linking up the three pieces. Is that right? Or is there another procedure not requiring the creation of the two separate files?

I would duplicate my original Pr sequence.  Then delete the second half

from one sequence, and delete the first half from its twin.

Back in Encore, link to each one of the twin sequences, then create and

link the En timelines as described before.

Jeff, is there a way to get a slideshow that I created in Encore on to my timeline in PPCS4, or can that slideshow only be used within Encore?

If you can find the mpeg2 (.m2v) file in the Sources\Transcodes folder then you can use it.  It will have a strange file name.  But first you have to do a transcode now operation on the slideshow if it hasn't been transcoded previously.

Jeff I now understand how to place the slideshow into the project, and I thank you very much for that help. I am now trying to understand how to place it there and smoothly go from the video into the slideshow.

If I had the two parts in PPCS4, I would have all of the editing tools available to be able to, for example, extend the sound from the video into the slideshow before the music starts, then fade it off as the music comes in. This is not possible within Encore, or am I incorrect about that?

A second question is this. Once you have items placed on your flowchart, if you make a mistake and incorrectly link things up, is your only option to go to edit and UNDO? That would be quite inconvenient if I find out that I've linked up somethings wrong, after I've done several other things, I would be undoing all of those other things before I get back to the one that I really wanted to undo in the first place. Is there another way around that?

No, you are correct.  Pr is the editor, En is the assembler.  Even Encore's slideshow feature is rudimentary compared to what Pr, AE or other non-Adobe packages that are designed for that can do.  However, if a basic slideshow works in your project, then the feature in En will get the job done.  It would make a good feature request to be able to export a slideshow from En for use in Pr or other applications, without having to dig through Encore's project folder looking for obscure files that may or may not be the actual slideshow.

No.  Just link to something else.  It will replace the existing link.
