1. Re: Slow stuttering playback. Need some help
Bill Gehrke Sep 5, 2009 8:16 AM (in response to luadke)Look at the many suggestions in this thread.
It is not windows 7 as it works great for many people. It may be in the way you have Windows 7 set up or not tuned properly.

Those are file types, not media types. What model camera did you shoot with? What format did you shoot in?

luadke Sep 5, 2009 8:48 AM (in response to JSS1138)oh,

6. Re: Slow stuttering playback. Need some help
Harm Millaard Sep 5, 2009 8:51 AM (in response to luadke)Getting a faster PC would definitely help, as would staying away from MOV, unless it was created with the animation codec.

7. Re: Slow stuttering playback. Need some help
JSS1138 Sep 5, 2009 8:52 AM (in response to luadke)My first thought would be to skip the FCP step and capture in Premiere using an appropriate card - BlackMagic, AJA, etc. I can't promise that will resolve the issue, but when Macs and Quicktime get invloved, my first thought is to eliminate them from the chain. That alone has solved many issues.

8. Re: Slow stuttering playback. Need some help
luadke Sep 5, 2009 8:57 AM (in response to JSS1138)Ah - but I am simply putting a showreel together - part of it was a film that was all edited in final cut.
Anyway - the problem is exsisting with footage that I have captured into final cut. It even is a problem if i do a simple animation in AE - export it as a AVI, mpeg, .mov or whatever... and then import that into Prem. Always have the stuttering.
I realise a faster computer would help, but you know - I just don't have the cash for that at the mo

This jumped out at me. You do not have enough available memory to run Premiere. Get rid of all the garbage processes on your computer. Win 7/Premiere CS4 both require more memory than you are used to. I just took a look at my Win7 and with 4GB physical memory I have 2.4 GB available before starting Premiere. You can not upgrade your Win7 RC to 64 bit with a Pentium 4 so that help path is out of the question.

11. Re: Slow stuttering playback. Need some help
JSS1138 Sep 5, 2009 10:59 AM (in response to luadke)OK.
As a test, try capturing some MiniDV footage in Premiere. Does it exhibit the same stuttery playback?

You might find some useful tips on eliminating those extra Processes in this ARTICLE.
