1. Re: Encore CS3 interpret footage crash
dan_hin Sep 9, 2009 4:12 PM (in response to dan_hin)got around this seemingly unsurmountable issue by not using the frameserver. this meant that I had to re-render a 29 gig dv stream, to a dv-avi. Looks like storage is going to be an absolute <expletive deleted> with this...unless we splash the cash and upgrade to cs4 Dual layer == a complete nightmare.

2. Re: Encore CS3 interpret footage crash
dan_hin Aug 27, 2010 7:45 AM (in response to dan_hin)Same issue, a year on.
The file that is causing Encore to crash is an Avid DV quicktime.
Encore interprets it incorrectly on import as 4:3 when in fact the file should be 16:9.
If I open the interpret footage dialogue and click ok (even if the aspect ratio has not been changed, encore crashes to desktop.
I attempted to load the .mov through premier and into encore via frameserver, but encountered exactly the same issue. Now I'm re-transcoding to dv avi through premier in the hope that this will do the trick.
"Why do you need to use Encore to transcode the files in the first place?" I hear you ask - I need the open GOPs in order to add accurate chapter points for the DVD.
Does anyone know if this issue is fixed in CS5? We'll be upgrading software and hardware fairly soon so I'd like to make sure that this annoying bug is squashed, despite the DDP file master goodness that CS5 will bring.

3. Re: Encore CS3 interpret footage crash
Jeff Bellune Aug 27, 2010 7:57 AM (in response to dan_hin)I can't tell you if the issue is resolved in CS5 since I've never seen this issue in any version of Encore. For anyone to help they'll need more information:
What operating system?
What other video/DVD software is installed?
Any codecs or codec "packs" installed?
Is it just the one file that causes a problem?
What version of QuickTime is installed?
When you encountered the problem with an "avi" file last year, what codec was used in that AVI file?
And probably more questions later on...
Please be as complete and specific as you can with your answers.
-Jeff
