    Flash 8 and Windows 7

      Hello, All.

      I can't get Flash CS4 yet (finances and such). That plus I couldn't figure out the new AS 2.0 in it's demo let alone the AS 3.0

      Anywho, I'm MUCH more comfortable with Flash 8 but I'm having trouble. I can't seem to get it installed to my new Windows7 (activated Beta) iso

      This is as far as it ever gets to installing:

      If it's actually not compatable with WINDOWS 7, then can someone please direct me on how to adjust my Flash8 (AS2) codes for FlashCS4 (AS2)? I have no need/time for learning AS3 at this time. Thanks

          You should not have to adjust anything between Flash 8 and CS4 as far as AS2 is concerned.  The language is the same.  Please note that I have emphasized "should not have to"... I cannot promise anything... I avoided CS4 and there have been reports here of older files not working when opened in CS4.

          I do not think you will be able to install Flash 8 into a Windows 7 OS.  I know I could not install it in a Vista OS, giving me a clear error message indicating that and not just hanging the installation as you seem to have happening. While I was hoping they might change that for Windows 7, they probably didn't, and I'd hesitate upgrading to it anyways... things always seem to lose performance (for me) when I upgrade things and I'm determined to keep my somewhat new machine working clean.

            I'm not positive about Flash 8 and compatibility on the beta Win 7. I have Flash 8 running on Vista though, but because Flash 8 came well before Vista there could very well be unknown issues there.

            As Ned says you shouldn't have to change your AS2 code for CS4, and you can always publish to Flash Player 8 if you wish. The UI is different than Flash 8, but I doubt you'll feel lost.

            Many of the problems opening legacy files (which were mainly very large files with lots of nested animation or very heavy usage of graphic instances with lots of keyframes) were resolved with the 10.0.2 updater - a significant reason for its release, and catching and fixing the varity of use cases is why it took awhile to get out.

              :::UPDATE:::

              I've not tried opening a Flash8 file in Flash CS4. But I have started AS2 files in FlashCS4 and tried to use the same AS2 codes from a Flash8 file (Saved in notepad). Even the most simple of codes (gotoandPlay) refuse to work in CS4. It makes no logical sence to me.

              I managed to get the funding to get CS4 and got it. Felt I had no choice. Then guess what. Flash 8 Installed!!! Good Grief. So now I have both. Which is fine, I can continue to use Tutorials to learn CS4 (like I did here). But I plan to use Flash8 for the most part.

              Why on earth did Adobe have to go and make AS3 so dang complicated?!

              Thanks for the help, guys.

                Just in case, for the AS2 file that you attempted, make sure that your Flash Publish Settings are set for AS1/2 and not AS3... though that wouldn't seem to be the case since you didn't mention any error messages, which AS3 is quite generous about dealing out (that's a good thing though).
