Conditional build tags with numbered lists

Hi, I am using conditional build tags to create a separate version of our product help file for a cut down version of the software. In our help instructions we use numbered tasks for explaining how to complete a process.

Where some steps aren't required for the cut down version, the numbering does not auto-update accordingly - is there a way to resolve this?
