What video and codec from what video camera on what OS?
The video cam that I have been using is a panasonic HDC-SD9 it uses AVCHD .MTS files and my pc is running Windows Vista
Thanks for your help.
Do you still have AVCHD, HDV, XDCAM presets when creating a new sequence?
If not, uninstall, run clean script 2 or 3 times, reinstall and update.
If yes, try importing into a new sequence or even a new prioject.
Yes i do still have AVCHD , HDV, XDCAM presets and have also tried inporting in to a new project
but I am still getting the same blank screen.
I removed the full programs and reinstalled it without the updates and it all worked fine so I then pressed help
and updates to try the updates again and as soon as it had installed the updates i was back to the same
problem with the blank screen.
If I could get away with not updateding the program i would be happy as it was working fine. The only problem
with that is if I dont update I dont get the youtube widescreen export format I need as this option comes with
Could you let me know what clean script is?
thanks again for the help, have you anymore ideas<
This is so weird, that my feeling is there is something wrong with your installation, even though you still have all the AVCHD, HDV and XDCAM presets available. I would, even if it takes some time, go through the folowing steps:
1. Uninstall, possibly deactive first
2. Run Clean Script 2 or 3 times
3. Reinstall and reactivate
and try again. I cannot guarantee this will work, but it seems your best chance.
I gave that ago and its still doing the same thing, its being a pain. I am now back on 4.0.0 as that is working fine.
I will just edit it all my videos I am working on on 4.0.0 and when there ready to export I will then update to 4.1.0
and export them.
Is there anyway I could get the update for the export setting "h.264, Youtube widescreen HD" with out doing the rest
of the update.
Thanks again for the help,
How are the media files being imported into Premiere? Describe the steps in detail.
Ok I will start with me opening the program.
Capture format is HDV.
I am then choosing AVCHD / 1080p / AVCHD 1080p25p.
The settings are:
For editing AVCHD Formats recorded in 1920x1080 square pixels (non-anamorphic).
16:9 progressive-scan 1080p HD video at 25 frames per second.
Editing mode: AVCHD 1080p square pixel
Frame size: 1920h 1080v (1.0000)
Frame rate: 25.00 frames/second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0)
Fields: No Fields (Progressive Scan)
Sample rate: 48000 samples/second
Total video tracks: 3
Master track type: Stereo
Mono tracks: 0
Stereo tracks: 3
5.1 tracks: 0
Submix mono tracks: 0
Submix stereo tracks: 0
Submix 5.1 tracks: 0
After the program opens I then double click on the project part of Adobe Pro top left hand corner, that then
brings up the import browse box where I can find my files I want to edit. After I find my files I then double
click on the MTS file I want to edit. It then comes up with a small window right in the middle of the screen
saying "inport file". The file then appears on the top left hand corner in the project window but the small preview
screen stays black. I then double click on my MTS file to view it in the source screen and then press play.
I hear sound but only see a black screen. I then drag my MTS file on to the time line, I can then see my video
on the program window top right hand side but the problem is the full video is red in colour.
I know I have told you more than you asked for but maybe it might help.
As I said before I don't have any of the problems before the update to 4.1.0 from 4.0.0.
Thanks for the help.
Are these files coming from an SD card, a camera, or from a computer hard drive when you Browse to them?
The files are in a folder on my computer. I also have the files on my sd card but I have been taking them from my computer
As a test, try taking the media straight from the SD card. Import the whole folder, not just the individual files.
Sorry i took so long to answer, I gave it a go and it still done the same thing so I saved all my stuff and rebooted the full pc but even after that I still had no luck with it. I then tried premire cs4 on my laptop and updated it and it worked fine with no problems at all so that makes me think that there is something in my pc the update is not working with.

Thanks again for trying to help.
I don't see anything about the graphics card or the graphics driver in this thread. If you're using an ATI or Nvidia graphics card, you might consider updating it to the latest. At first blush, this seems to be the first thing to try. Apologies if you have already done so.
Last night I checked my system over and even though the pc is only 3 month old and windows updates are up to date. I took a look at the dell website to see if the pc needed any other updates, after I done that premiere is now working fine.
Thanks again for all you replied

Many have been lulled by the newness of their computers. By the time that they ship, most Audio and Video drivers are a couple of versions old. Updating is highly recommended.
and windows updates are up to date.
Unfortunately, simple OS updates and hotfixes can kill both Audio and Video drivers. Because an NLE uses these drivers more intensely, than most applications, other programs will function, as before, but the NLE will not. As the majority of users have their OS updates set to automatic, they are often unaware that something has changed, and often changed in a big way. They just know that what worked one day, does not work the next. They puzzle, as they have added no hardware, or software - but the OS update has killed things big time.
Glad that you got it sorted,
I'm facing exactly the same problem on my Laptop. It's a new machine (only 1 month) old.
Could you please guide me as to how I should update my laptop on the dell webiste please?
