    Insert Bar on Mac

    Stuart Haiz Community Member

Does anyone else have this issue on a Mac using DW CS4 please?

When I drag the insert panel out and dock it as a bar, it is truncated - not showing all the installed extensions that use the insert bar. I have followed Adobe's advice and been through many rounds of rebuilding config files, deleting prefs and enabling extensions one at a time to see if there is one causing the problem, but can't get to the bottom of it and wonder if anyone else has a similar issue.

There is plenty of space across my 24" iMac screen to display these extensions, but the bar is not extending. I have tried it on a 15" Powerbook with the same results. It seems there is a limit to what can be displayed on the docked insert panel. For example, it is not showing my divaFAQ extension.

      Anyone else having this problem?

I have had a look at your screenshot, and see that you have a large number of custom extensions that have inserted their own tabs into the Insert bar.

AFAIK, the Insert bar cannot be extended. It looks as though your enthusiasm for extensions has run into a limitation of the DW user interface.

            Hi David

Thanks for confirming what I thought was a DW GUI issue and not just down to me! Yes, I have a few WebAssist extensions installed, but really this shouldn't be an issue. Clearly, there is the space to show all the extensions on the insert bar and Adobe need to address this.

I have reported the problem to Adobe. An engineer told me that the solution will probably be to support scrolling on the tabs. Hopefully, it will be fixed in the next version of Dreamweaver. At the moment, though, it seems as though you will need to switch back to the Insert panel or use the Insert menu to access extensions that are inaccessible through the Insert bar.

                Thank you David

This is really helpful. It's a shame that we have to pay for upgrades to address issues such as this and the paste special still not fixed on the Mac. (Currently, pasting in text with formatting does not work and requires the workaround of pasting the text into Word, saving it as html and then copying it out...).

I do however, appreciate your passing this on and letting me know the answer you got directly from Adobe. I have posted a couple of Tech support tickets on this, one just a few days ago and only got as far as being referred to a kb article that suggests rebuilding the config folder, trashing prefs, removing and re-installing etc.
