1. Re: Draging (copy) file from Bridge does not include XMP?
Curt Y Sep 29, 2009 8:33 AM (in response to rproulxmtl)Yes it is normal. Moving files outside of Bridge can cause the XMP file to be left behind.
There is a box in metadata preferences to select "supports XMP", but not sure if that makes any difference or not in moving files.

2. Re: Draging (copy) file from Bridge does not include XMP?
rproulxmtl Sep 29, 2009 11:19 AM (in response to Curt Y)I just solved it (sort of).
Under "View" one can choose to "Show Hidden Files" and then the XMP files are visible and everything can then be selected and dragged to a Windows browser folder.
Btw, I looked for a metadata preference marked "supports XMP" and could not find that. But it did get me finding the "Show Hidden Files" pref. so thanks for the help ! :-)

That box is the last item in the metadata File Properties listing in Bridge.
Another way to avoid the hassle of XMP files is to convert your NEF's to DNG's. Then all the data that would be written to XMP is written to the image so there is no XMP file.

When working with 1000 images from a big event shoot it's a LOT faster to back up 9mb of XMP files rather than 25GB of DNGs and then risk a HD write error. I think the whole idea of the XMP file is GREAT!
I've never been a fan of the whole DNG idea and never will be :-)
