CS4 Design Premium XP SP3 won't install Acrobat 9 stuck on "Preparing to install"

      Hi,

I've read through many posts on this subject but not sure I saw a resolution.  I am running XP SP3.

I have installed all of the CS4 Desgin Premium except for Acrobat 9.

To install the rest of CS4, required the Windows clean-up script and the CS4 Cleanup to remove trial versions of CS4.

I thought all was well until I tried to run Acrobot 9 only discover it was not installed.

I put the CD in and it listed as Acrobat 9 as the only appliaction available for install.  I clicked it and waited, for a long time,

watching the "Preparing to Install".  Long time as in more than 20 minutes until I noticed that nothing was going on, the

disk was not spinning, cpu usages was nearly nil.  I check that it is not the disk drive, I checked that antivirus was disable.

I uninstalled Acrobat 8 and rebooted.  I ran the Adobe support advisor only for it to tell me there was no resolution.

Clicked the "Package for Support" to send to Adobe and received " The storage server is unavailable ! Please try again later"

I looked through the log file in the common files/adobe/installers folder and no "Return 3" like a previous tech note/post suggested.

I browsed the CD and noticed that there did not seem to be "en_US" nor "_mul" for Acrobat like there is for the other programs in

the payloads directory, I don't know if that means anything, just something I noticed. I attached a screenshot of disk 1 (used

snagit to create since Acrobat is not currently installed)

Like someone else in the forum, uninstalling would result in a great hardship given that I have painstainkenly converted several InDesign

docs and setup more than a handful of client websites using Dreamweaver CS4.

At this point, I've spent several days trying to figure it out and I am looking for alternatives to acrobat, having exhausted all ideas

      on how to resolve this.

      Please advise.
