2. Re: "flicker" when not expected???
lchapman66 Oct 17, 2009 3:29 AM (in response to JSS1138)Sequence is NTSC DV 4:3.
Windows Media export settings have varied all over the board as I experimented. I've tried all the field options in the clip itself. I've fiddled on the .wmv settings with bitrate (all the way up to 10K), VBR and CBR. I'm exporting with standard NTSC 720x480, 29.97fps. I have not messed with "Decoder complexity" or "Keyframe interval".
The very short sequence is the logo (.jpg) which in on a white background on track 2 ,with a white color matte on track 1. I'm zooming track 2 up by 10% over 10 seconds. It zooms from 90% to 100% scale. Very simple.
I even tried an export to .avi and the distortion still occurs, but not as bad as the .wmv renders.
I just don't understand why this is happening in rendered files but not at 100% scale in the preview monitor in PP.

lchapman66 Oct 17, 2009 6:01 AM (in response to lchapman66)Here's an example. This was exported usng "NTSC Source to High Quality Download".
*** Argh. I tried to attach a 1Mb .wmv file but I keep getting a message saying it isn't
an allowed file type??? ***

lchapman66 Oct 17, 2009 6:19 AM (in response to lchapman66)Not sure why the .wmv won't upload, but here's a jpg of the logo.

5. Re: "flicker" when not expected???
JSS1138 Oct 17, 2009 8:04 AM (in response to lchapman66)I tried several tests replicating your instructions. Not a one of them produced any kind of flicker on my system. Several of them did introduce jaggies into the curcular 'swish' element of the logo, but this was easily corrected by resizing the logo before hand to video dimensions and checking the "Allow Interlaced Processing" box in the export settings.

6. Re: "flicker" when not expected???
lchapman66 Oct 17, 2009 9:03 AM (in response to JSS1138)Thanks Joe, checking "Allow interlaced processing" did remove the flicker/jaggies,
but I lost a lot of sharpness. Visually it's the same result as adding blur or
"flicker removal".

JSS1138 Oct 17, 2009 10:35 AM (in response to lchapman66)I noticed no change in sharpness by checking that box. Not sure why it happened you for.

8. Re: "flicker" when not expected???
lchapman66 Oct 17, 2009 5:05 PM (in response to lchapman66)Argh! Maybe I should have tried this initially, but my intuition didn't head that way . . .
A reboot solved it. Used the default "High quality NTSC Download" setting and
it looks grand.
Sorry for the flotch!
