2. Re: Trouble importing RAW files into Lightroom with new camera
Matthew A Kraus Oct 17, 2009 5:58 PM (in response to MadManChan2000)I am using 2.5. Some more information.....
I can open these CR images in PS CS4 just by reading them from the card in PS. SO there isn't a problem with the file. It views perfectly in PS if I directly open it here. But then if I try to import it to LR from PS, I get the same message that the file is unsuported or damaged. So the pronblem isn't with the card reader or SD card...I just can't import them into Lightroom.
Does that help?
Thanks,
Matthew Kraus

MadManChan2000 Oct 17, 2009 6:17 PM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)Can you post an example of a raw file from either camera that you are having trouble importing into LR? You can use YouSendIt.com with a target email address of madmanchan2000@yahoo.com.

Matthew A Kraus Oct 17, 2009 6:56 PM (in response to MadManChan2000)I've never used YouSendIt before. I try to send it and it says your email
is not a valid format. What am I doing wrong? I have tried attaching it
to this email. Maybe that'll work or if not, help me withYouSendIt please.
I can open this raw file directly into PS without problem, but when i try to
import it to LR either from the card reader or from my hard drive, I get an
error it is not supported. Thanks again for your help.

7. Re: Trouble importing RAW files into Lightroom with new camera
MadManChan2000 Oct 17, 2009 7:16 PM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)Thanks Matthew. I got the file. I was able to import it successfully into my copy of LR 2.5.
I do not understand why it does not work on your side.
Just to verify, can you please visit the About box (i.e., the "About Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2..." menu item) and report the version number and build number (6 digits following the version number).
Thanks,
Eric

Matthew A Kraus Oct 18, 2009 7:05 AM (in response to MadManChan2000)Good Morning Eric,
Sorry about the email I just sent in error before I was done. I think
it's working OK now. After reading your last email saying you could import
it and aking me investige the version number, I was prompted to investigate
a little more. I actually was using LR 2.4 before when it wasn't working.
So I updated to 2.5, which I thought I did already but didn't. And now with
2.5 installed, I seem to be able to import my Raw files OK. I'll see how it
goes, but seems OK so far. Does that all make sense to you? I appreciate
you're woking so dilegently with me on this. If you don't mind, I'll keep
your email if for some reason it stops working. Once again, thanks very
much.

10. Re: Trouble importing RAW files into Lightroom with new camera
Ian Lyons Oct 18, 2009 7:11 AM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)Lr2.4 and before did not support the G11 or S90, hence your problem. Lr2.5 provides preliminary support for both of these cameras, which is why you can now import the files. It also provides preliminary support for the EOS 7D.

12. Re: Trouble importing RAW files into Lightroom with new camera
MadManChan2000 Oct 18, 2009 7:29 AM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)Hi Matthew, yes, glad to hear you got it worked out. As Ian said, the key is that 2.4 (which you were using previously) was released over the summer, long before the G11 and S90 cameras were out. There was no support yet back then. The new version of LR (2.5) has some early support. There will be some future version of LR that has final support.

13. Re: Trouble importing RAW files into Lightroom with new camera
dsteinauer Oct 30, 2009 9:07 PM (in response to MadManChan2000)I'm seeing the same (or at least very similar) problem, but I'm trying to import Nikon D300 RAW (NEF) files. I'm using 2.4 (haven't made time to upgrade to 2.5 yet), but that shouldn't be the problem, since I've imported many hundreds of files from this and my other Lexar 8G cards. The most alarming thing is that upon reinserting the card into my camera, the camera indicates the correct number of images (i.e., the same number of images left in the info screen), but displays a message No Image Data in File as I click through the images (except for the first image, which also displays on the LR import dialog.
Is this a different problem from that which is discussed in this thread? If so, I'll keep looking.

Jay_Warner Aug 29, 2010 5:42 PM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)ONe thing you have in common is the same camera supplier - Canon, and that yhoua re reading your problem chips directly form the camera. Over on the forum thread "Lightroom 3 will not import any images," you will find that we (plural:) had a simiilar problem, also with Canons. turned out that the camera's default was to communicate as PTP - prepare to print. When the communication control was reset to PC connection, just about everything went to clear, and life was great.
The Canon camers in question were still not reecognized as 'devices' by the Mac computers they were hooked to, but this is a bearable loss. I guess. The Canon people, in one of their FAQ answers, said that the Canon software did not link as a device properly to Macs.
The difficulty we had is apparently experienced when a Canon is connected to a Mac (and maybe to all computers) for uploading images directly from the camera. No problems appear to occur when the memory is uploaded through a card reader.
