2. Re: PS CS4 Image Size-Document Size readings querk... part 2
Shan-Dysigns Oct 21, 2009 1:04 PM (in response to Marijan Tompa)It honestly doesn't seem to matter what I do. This is one of the most irritating issues. Try this on your own. Create a blank document (size doesn't matter), make sure your rulers are on. After you right-click on the ruler to change the units, view its image size (ctrl+alt+I) - control+alt+eye
The document size unit of measurement is incorrect when my rulers are set to pixels:
Ruler
UnitDocument
Size UnitCanvas Size Unit pixels cm (was always inches in the past) pixels inches inches inches centimeters cm cm and so on...
I want my document size to ALWAYS be inches no matter what unit of measurement my ruler is set to - I only use pixels or inches. To me, the document size is what I use to estimate its print size. I swear in CS3 this unit was always in inches - what has happened??? This is maddening

Michael D Sullivan Oct 21, 2009 8:48 PM (in response to Shan-Dysigns)Have you tried returning your settings to default? You do this by deleting the settings file manually, or by starting the program and IMMEDIATELY pressing and holding CTRL-ALT-DEL until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete your settings. If you didn't get the dialog, you didn't press fast enough.

It's actually Ctrl+Alt+Shift, and yes, I've tried that before. I don't know how else to troublshoot because I'm not really sure when this began - I'm just now noticing it because I went to print my first image last month. When your rulers are set to pixels, what unit of measurement shows up in document size? Do you see "inches" any other time than having your ruler set to inches? Maybe it was this way from day 1 of CS4???

5. Re: PS CS4 Image Size-Document Size readings querk... part 2
Marijan Tompa Oct 22, 2009 12:04 AM (in response to Shan-Dysigns)well, I tried it once again...
I never use pixels as unit except if I work something for TV or screen, and if I do, i dont need document size (and never looked there), just pixel dimensions... If I work for printing, it's cm, or mm on my rulers...
I noticed that if my Regional settings is set to U.S. document size is in inches when your ruler is set to pixel, and if I change my Regional settings to Metric, document size is in cm...
That is how it behaves on my computer... Here are screenshots made with different settings...

6. Re: PS CS4 Image Size-Document Size readings querk... part 2
Shan-Dysigns Oct 22, 2009 12:59 PM (in response to Marijan Tompa)I followed your settings in your screen shots (doubting it would change anything), and no matter what setting I had, the document size unit sticks on CM (when pixels is set for rulers). Apparently this is not a new issue (maybe over-looked by many, or maybe some outside setting not related to Adobe is causing this). I found an old post http://www.mombu.com/computer_design/general-photoshop/t-nuisance-bug-deserves-to-be-squas hed-ps7-pscs-3123842.html discussing the exact issue I have.
I even reinstalled Photoshop CS4 and nothing changed. I deleted my preferences file - no change. Changed my regionaly settings to Metric, rebooted, document size shows in cm - reset regional settings to US, rebooted - no change.
This is so irritating, and it's one of those things I can't simply move on from because I can't stand working when "something isn't right". As much as I've searched for this issue, it seems others' solution was to set Regional Settings to US but mine is and has been US. I don't know of anything else to do other than throwing my computer out the window.

celuloyd Jun 7, 2010 1:19 PM (in response to Shan-Dysigns)Have you found a solution yet? I have a suggestion that might not help, but it's happening to me, too. Did you happen to buy an upgrade from a non-major software vendor? Did you notice when you installed it that you couldn't change the "English-UK" language to "English-US"? We did, and we are having the same issues as you seem to be having. The default paper size for all the CS4 apps is A4 (we would prefer "letter"). I can't find a way to change it, so if anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Noel Carboni Jun 7, 2010 3:54 PM (in response to Shan-Dysigns)I always keep my rulers set to pixels, and I've yet to see cm in the Image Size dialog.
Maybe I'm not understanding what you want, or maybe it's just working right for me...
Here are my prefs settings, plus a look at the Image - Size dialog that comes up by default.

Edit: Oops, I see the OP's request is quite old.

Shan-Dysigns Jun 7, 2010 4:19 PM (in response to Noel Carboni)Even though this topic is old, I still can't figure it out. I had to move on from this issue because it started taking too much of my time worrying about what is more than likely something on my end.
I had recently (at the time of post) re-installed my OS and installed CS4. I can't imagine during that setup process I changed any Regional Settings, but even so, my current Regional Settings point to US.
In your graphic example, I can get the same results if I create a new document in inches, then immediately look at the image size. With my ruler showing, once I right-click on the ruler and change the unit to pixels, the document size reads in cm. This is the heart of my issue.

I just tried it exactly as you said on my CS4 installation and the image size dialog just keeps showing inches in all cases.
I know exactly what you mean about something like this being maddening.
Have you tried CS5?

11. Re: PS CS4 Image Size-Document Size readings querk... part 2
Pat Randall Jul 11, 2010 9:51 PM (in response to Shan-Dysigns)We just changed from Windows XP to Windows 7 and I had to re-install Photoshop CS4. I was having the very same problem with my image size and canvas size etc. etc. being in cm. I did change my computer regional info to English U.S. from Canada which didn't help. But I looked at the recent info in this forum for changing Preferences under Units and Rulers. I changed the "Rulers" and "Type" to inches and pixels respectively. They were set at points. I also changed both "Column Size" settings to inches and "New Document Preset Resolutions" to pixels/inch. This finally fixed it. I hope there are no other repurcussions from those changes. If anyone thinks there will be please let me know. I never had to make these changes when it was installed on Windows XP and I bought the upgrade directly from Adobe as well. I hope this helps, but you have likely tried this. Good Luck, it is Soooo annoying.

12. Re: PS CS4 Image Size-Document Size readings querk... part 2
Shan-Dysigns Jul 12, 2010 8:44 AM (in response to Pat Randall)I'm not sure you followed my exact issue, though.
When the ruler is set to inches, all is fine when you look at Image Size/Document Size (width and height reads in inches). No other setting seems to matter when the unit of measurement changes to pixels (whether you change this in preferences of by right-clicking on the ruler), the document size still reads in "cm".
For what you did, as soon as you set your ruler unit to inches, that would have resulted in the document reading in inches (no other setting would have really mattered). For me, once I change the ruler to pixels, the document size reverts back to cm.
