Publishing Presenter file to website?

I am exploring the trial version of Presenter 7 for use in a distance learning program. It looks like the perfect program for what I want. BUT I can't figure out how to publish a file to my website where all of the course modules are stored. I don't want to make the purchase unless I know that this is possible. Thank you for your help!

What software/system are you using for your online classes?  I have used the Presentations a fair bit in both the ANGEL software and on a blackboard system.

It sounds like you're familiar with what I'm doing!

I use blackboard. The way our modules work is that from Blackboard we link to course content that is stored on our web site. I wanted to keep the modules as is on the web site, but insert Presenter files. I have inserted many PPT files, but with Presenter there are a lot of fragments, and I can't figure out how to do it. My web person is overhauling an entire program for me this fall, and we're trying to decide if Presenter is the program to use to insert narration, knowledge reviews, etc. We use Blackboard for standalone course documents, quizzes, and record keeping. But it's down so much that it seems to work better to keep the modules separate.

I've been researching and reading all weekend, and everything I'm reading sounds like Presenter works best as part of a larger intact system. I was hoping that I could use it by itself.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, you can use Presenter with Blackboard.  I've done it. It just takes a couple of extra steps versus software that is more integrated.

Basically, you create a Presentation and export as a zip file.  Then create a hidden folder to upload the Presentation into. Unzip the files if your system doesn't do it automatically. The folder will contain eight files when unzipped.

Finally, link to the index.htm file that folder.  I usually insert the hyperlink into my opening page after a short written introduction.

It is actually easier than it sounds.

Perfect! I just talked with technical support, and they said pretty much the same thing. I've just never done it before, so will have to play with it a bit. I feel like my brain is the size of a pea about now!

Thanks so much for your help.

You'll do fine. It really is easier and faster than it sounds. I have never said that about anything else regarding online classes.

By the way, make notes of what you do. I forgot the steps after I did my first one.  The only trick is knowing the steps.

My web designer just sent me this:

Are you thinking a combination of web-page with Presenter inserts, pictures and animations? If so, I don't think that's doable — Presenter isn't like PowerPoint where you can add it as a free-standing animation inside a web page. Presenter produces its own self-contained file which only can be run by itself, not inside something else.

I don't have all of my modules inside of Blackboard. I link to web page URLs for each module. My web person is saying that we can't insert Presenter presentations into the web pages. Adobe tech support says we can. Who would you believe?

As an alternative, I guess I can do what you say and just move all of the program content to Blackboard. BUT they have dumped my course material twice, so I'm not too trusting. I only use BB because I train educators, and they are used to it.

You cannot put the Presentation as a insert withing a page (like a YouTube video with other content around it), but you can put a hyperlink on anything within the page. Some times I use words, sometimes an image. Frankly, I think this makes it look better and keeps the file size down.

You can have your files anywhere on the web, and just link to them. I like having them within the Blackboard or ANGEL system because this automatically makes the files password protected by the system.

If you want a flash video to put an insert within a page, or if you want a straight flash video (single file), check out Camtasia by Techsmith. It is also far better if you want to capture a live lecture. However, Presenter is far better for editing a narrated PowerPoint lecture.

I really want to thank you for your help. We have to keep our programs at a price point that educators can afford, and so have kept clear of fancy animations, etc. PowerPoint/Presenter is something that I can manage myself, which saves thousands of design dollars.

If there's anything I can do to return the favor, I'd like to . . . if you're interested in MBTI Type, I know quite a bit about it!
