Response to Recovery slider in LR2

I observe that the response to adjustments with the recovery slider depends not just on the current slider setting but how it got there.  Specifically, assuming an adjustment that starts with the slider at zero, if I click on the slider bar at a high value, say 80, hold down the mouse button while waiting for a response in the image and histogram, then drag the slider back to a lower value, say 30, I get a different image and histogram from just clicking and dragging the slider from zero to 30.  The first technique seems to pull as many blown pixels as possible down into the display range, then as I drag the slider downward push the lowered pixel values back upward but "resisting" pushing them beyond the display limit.  The second (more natural) technique makes progressive attempts at pulling pixels downward.  At the final value (30 in my example), the first technique may have no clipped pixels and less affect on the high end of the histogram, while the second technique still has clipped pixels and some "darkening" of the upper end on the histogram.  (The numbers 80 and 30 are for ease of explanation and not at all critical to the effect).

In general the first technique seems to me to give better recovery results.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?  Is it a documented effect?
