I want to archive my favorites settings and keyboard shortcuts in Audition 3. Is that possible? If so, what file(s) are involved, and where are they located.
Technically it's possible, I suppose - but you're going to have a bit of a job on your hands because they are all stored as registry values... and not exactly in plain english either.

2. Re: how to save/export favorites/keyboard shortcuts AA3
ryclark Nov 8, 2009 3:54 PM (in response to SteveG(AudioMasters))The way I managed to find my keyboard shortcuts was to open the keyboard shortcuts page and save a copy with a very distinctive which was unlikely to appear anywhere else in Windows. I could then search the registry to find it and along side were my other saved shortcuts. There seem to be two places where they are kept. On my PC they were:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Audition\3.0\Prefs\Keys\en_US\[Custom]
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1229272821-1659004503-682003330-1005\Software\Adobe\Audition\3.0\Prefs \Keys\en_US\[Custom]
So it looks like if you do a registry search on [Custom] that should find them. So just save out these two sets of keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Audition\3.0
and whatever the second one is on your PC.

I appreciate you responding, but my question of "is it possible" was more hypothetical than anything. Even so, your response offered no help. I wouldn't assume people aren't capable of looking through the registry. I don't understand why people bother to answer a post and not even fully answer it.

In other programs were I either create a workspace or personal preferences, I name the customization the same for all programs (thinking I could simply search for that custom name in explorer), but I never really thought to look strickly in the registry. I found both folders (which are named shandy default) and both key values appear to be the same. You specified a path
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1229272821-1659004503-682003330-1005\Software\Adobe\Audition \3.0\Prefs\Keys\en_US\[Custom]
in which mine had slightly different numbers (which I understand why). I'm not sure why the folders are in 2 different places with what appears to be the same values, but I will just have to keep in mind when I reinstall AA3, the path I just mentioned above will be different once again. I have both keys saved and will apply them once I'm reinstalled. Thanks for the suggestion -

Because actually, assuming that people don't generally want to play around with the registry is a very reasonable assumption to make. So if I say that this is where the answer is found, and people don't want to proceed, then I haven't put a load of information in a post unnecessarily - and if they do, then I can provide more information. So when you said 'is that possible' it was a very open-ended question, and you said nothing at all about your desire or otherwise to get into the guts of the OS. So you got, initially, a very open-ended answer.
And I can assure you that I don't make assumptions based on absolutely no information about peoples' likely behaviour at all - I've been doing this far too long for that.
So do you understand a bit better now?
***************************************************************
And FWIW, I don't get the shortcuts at the same number either - in mine it's
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-682003330-1767777339-725345543-1007\Software\Adobe\Audition\3.0\Prefs\ Keys\en_US\[Custom]
What I was actually going to suggest was a generic way of finding the key - which is to store a custom set with a different name, and search the registry for that - then the actual numbers in the path don't matter. The one thing that may not work though is simply adding this key and the table back into a completely rebuilt system with a path number that's incorrect - you may actually have to paste the table of values (which is what you really want) back into the correct place in your new system.
