1. Re: Form with user rights enabled works only on some machines.
~graffiti Nov 12, 2009 9:39 AM (in response to DP_MC)I believe that in order for them to fill a rights-extended form out and save it, they need version 7.5 or better. Is everyone updated to at least that point?

2. Re: Form with user rights enabled works only on some machines.
DP_MC Nov 12, 2009 9:47 AM (in response to ~graffiti)Thank you for responding.
I have two people running Vista with Acrobat 9.2. They are able to fill in form if I send it on it's own. The problem creeps in when the form is attached to the pdf containing media files.
On the other hand there are three others also with Vista machines running Acrobat 9.0 who are able to receive the PDF with the attached form and who are able to complete the form and return it.

Bernd Alheit Nov 12, 2009 9:58 AM (in response to DP_MC)For the use with Acrobat you don't need user rights extended forms.

4. Re: Form with user rights enabled works only on some machines.
DP_MC Nov 12, 2009 10:07 AM (in response to Bernd Alheit)Because the group is so small, the client wants the forms sent back as a PDF. So the form is sent back as a pdf. If it helps explain the problem I am attaching the file here if you would be so good as to see if I have done something odd. The purpose of the file is simply to establish whether the group has various media codecs installed. The form is a simple one. As I say it works for some people but others are experiencing a 'this operation is not permitted message.

5. Re: Form with user rights enabled works only on some machines.
DP_MC Nov 12, 2009 11:16 AM (in response to DP_MC)My apologies - having visited and physically checked the two machines on which the form is working I found that they have Acrobat 8 reader and not 9. So it is with Acrobat reader 9 that the media pdf and attached form does not work.

Bernd Alheit Nov 12, 2009 12:13 PM (in response to DP_MC)No problem here with Adobe Reader 9.2.

7. Re: Form with user rights enabled works only on some machines.
DP_MC Nov 12, 2009 12:22 PM (in response to Bernd Alheit)Thank you for that - this is a complete mystery. I have checked the machines with 9.2 installed and they display the usual 'you cannot save data' any attempt at submitting gives an 'operation not permitted' . As I wrote the form on its own works fine on these machines.

8. Re: Form with user rights enabled works only on some machines.
Bill@VT Nov 13, 2009 12:09 AM (in response to DP_MC)Some other possibilites:
1. You can have the complete information if the data is submitted in FDF, XML, or XFDF. I opened the submit box in AA7 and noted the settings. The fact I can open it in AA7 was a bit surprising. The reason I suggest the data files is that they do not require extended rights and can simply be impored to the form on your end to get the identical results as if the whole form had been sent.
2. I could only play the media file, but that is likely a capability of AA7 rather than an issue with flash and such.
3. E-mail may be an issue. Some systems require additional work to be able to use E-mail for form submission. Prior to AA9, mailto require MAPI on the client machine.
Don't know if any of these help or not, but at least they are some more tidbits of info.

9. Re: Form with user rights enabled works only on some machines.
Bernd Alheit Nov 13, 2009 1:39 AM (in response to DP_MC)Using Adobe Reader you must extract the form before you can fill the form. Adobe Reader can't modify a attachment in a PDF document.

10. Re: Form with user rights enabled works only on some machines.
DP_MC Nov 13, 2009 6:32 AM (in response to Bill@VT)Thank you the info is helpful. The issue here is that the client wants a pdf returned to him otherwise I would use the data. I am a newbie to this so I am still finding my feet. I cannot understand tho why in Acro 8 reader there is no problem only in Acro9 reader.

11. Re: Form with user rights enabled works only on some machines.
DP_MC Nov 13, 2009 6:34 AM (in response to Bernd Alheit)Thank you. Bear with me - what do you mean by extract the form? The odd thing as I mentioned before is that I can go through the entire media file. Then click on the form in Acro 8 reader and it all works. Is there something I am missing in Acro9?

12. Re: Form with user rights enabled works only on some machines.
Bill@VT Nov 13, 2009 7:56 AM (in response to DP_MC)I just tried to send the data to you as a test file from AA8. I changed to a data submission with FDF. You should be able to import that to the form and get exactly what I saw on screen when I filled it out. It is not necessary to send back the form that may eliminate some of the problems. Also, the answer to the 2nd and 3rd questions did not fit. I got nothing to work with AA8 or earlier versions. You need an answer that says could not make work at all. I think that the 3rd question may have been OK, but it was not that I did not hear anything -- nothing happened at all.

13. Re: Form with user rights enabled works only on some machines.
DP_MC Nov 13, 2009 8:21 AM (in response to Bill@VT)Thank you for a very valuable crit. I suspect what you suggested is going to be the only way to go. As an experiment I made the mediafile as an attachment to the form and voila the form user rights worked. The only problem was that submitting the form ends up submitting the entire media file as well. It seems that with Acro 9 whatever is the main file takes oever user rights of the attached file. well I'm getting there albeit slowly.
