    Crop tool: specific dimensions?

    El Gu man Community Member

      Hi,

Does anyone know if one can specify an image size (e.g., 5x7 in) when cropping in LT?

      Thanks!

You crop to a ratio. You export at a size. RAW files have no inches just pixels. inches only matter when printing when you require a certain number of pixels per inch (ppi) often (incorrectly) refereed to as dpi. Set your ppi in export and then the size of the outputted image. So for a 5X7 inch print at 300 ppi (the usual resolution for printing) you would crop at a ratio of 5X7, set the ppi at 300 and set the pixel dimensions as 1500 x 2100 (or just longest side as 2100). You can do all this in the print module by setting the ppi at whatever you require and LR will upsize or down size as required and then output directly to a printer connected to the computer or as jpg to send to a print service. The print module has a lot of other option if you are making a print and is better than just using export especially if you want to print a full image on a particular size of paper with borders rather than cropping.
