BobLevine Nov 25, 2009 8:09 AM (in response to IowaBoy9)What version of InCopy and why is she opening InCopy files instead of the InDesign or Assignment file?

2. Re: InCopy will not open InCopy file when double-clicking on file
IowaBoy9 Nov 25, 2009 8:19 AM (in response to BobLevine)She is working in InCopy 5.0.4. It doesn't matter what kind of file, incx, inca, or incp, she gets the same message. To answer your other question, occasionally, we supply incx files to designers for placement. And occasionally, we need to go back into a package to update content and return to InDesign. To do that, we are in the habit of opening the inca file in the InCopy Assignments folder. The other option--opening the original package-- always fills me with dread. Did I select the correct option or have I wiped out all the changes I already made?

BobLevine Nov 25, 2009 8:22 AM (in response to IowaBoy9)Windows or Mac? I seem to remember seeing this discussed recently on the InDesign forum.
You might want to pop over there to see if you can find anything. Otherwise, I'd try re-associating the file extensions with InCopy.

You may even want to delete the original package (or at least archive it) right after you open it to prevent opening it accidentally.
Like Bob said, sounds like some sort of internal Windows issue. Try reassociating the extensions with the program.
Or can you right-click and choose Open With?

IowaBoy9 Nov 25, 2009 4:04 PM (in response to IowaBoy9)I found out that her InCopy was installed on in a goofy place on her hard drive. Or somehow she moved the entire InCopy application folder into a folder on her desktop. I had her move the folder into the application folder. I don't think that fixed the problem.
