Content missing in right hand pane

Hi,

Just to preface this: I am not an IT specialist/technical person. Unfortunately my company does not subscribe to Adobe Support services...really hoping someone in the forum will want to help!

When I generate WebHelp in single source layout, it does not display all content in the right hand pane. It generates "successfully" but one or two topics are missing each time I generate Webhelp. It is totally at random, i.e. not always the same topics are affected. After this happens I have to delete and replace these topics in the TOC but the problem happens all over again (although usually to a different topic!).

I have changed invalid characters in the file names (as recommended in the Help topic) but no difference. BTW uppercase has been used in some file names (although the problem occurs to upper and lower case titled topics).

Please help...

Welcome to the forum.

Is the source project on your hard disk (good) or on a network (bad, unless using source control)?

What version of RH?

Hi,

Thanks for the welcome and the reply. Unfortunately my training in Robohelp was brief...

If, by source project, you mean the mpj file it is on a network drive and I haven't been using version control.

I'm using v6.0 but I started the project in 5.5.

RH projects must be on your local drive except where source control is used. Move it to a local drive and see if it works OK then.

Also RH6 projects don't have an MPJ file. Are you perhaps trying to open the project from a file that should have been deleted? There should be an XPJ file, for both X5 and RH6.

Thank you very much for you advice. Sorry for the delay in replying.

Over the past week I have been helped by an IT professional who identified that the source project had indeed been set up on a shared network drive and the project was being compiled to the same drive. She fixed this problem by moving it to my hard drive (plus we backed up the project by copying it to my personal network drive).

However I am still getting blank topics (file size 0 KB, average 3-4 topics at random) in the compiled version. The IT professional had co-incidentally been using WebHelp this year and experienced the same problem (it was reported to Adobe but no response). She showed me a workaround - copying from the source into the compiled version - replacing the empty files.

Do you know whether or not this is a known problem and if there is a fix - or are we doing something wrong? By the way I have had this problem in both v 5.5 and 6.0.

Adding source files to the output folder will not look pretty. Open one of each in Notepad and see how much formatting information RH adds in the generation process.

Try this:

In the RH project:
1. Create a new WebHelp layout (call it TestWeb or whatever).
2. In the Properties for this new layout, select an entirely new location for generating the output.
3. If you also publish output to a server, select an entirely new location for publishing that output.
4. Generate[& publish] the output using this new layout.
5. See what happens.

Good luck,
Leon

Guide,

Is there anything unusual about the topics that come out blank? Are they always the same ones? What do they have in common? What does the html code look like, compared with a topic that's OK?
