Problem with "saving as" in CS2

    Michelmnr Community Member

Hi, Recently I'm having problem with saving as in Photoshop cs 2.  My last attempt was to get a jpg from a folder and open it with Ph sh cs2, then did a little work on it (croping, patching some colors and adding some short text) then "flatten" the image and went to Save As - chose jpg and wrote a file name. got the quality request picked the highest and clicked Enter. had a very short sand glass time. looked in the folder and had an icon with no extension on it. Sometimes by adding the extension to the name I got the right result, some other times this did not work!

In the recent past I simply had to do this 2 or 3 times before I got my photo saved correctly, today it was impossible until I made a copy of the pic I was working on and only then it was ok!

I wonder if anyone has any idea why this suddenly would happen and if there is a solution.

I'm using Win XP and had no such problem for years before! I don't remember playing with the settings or preference, but these days, I don't remember a lot of things!

      Thank you MM

Does the filename have an extension in the Save As dialog? It should. If it doesn't it should get one when you pick the file type. If not, you could of course type it in along with the file name.

I'm not sure if OS-level settings will have any impact here, but make sure extensions are visible in Windows (found under Tools > Folders > Show or something similar).

If none of this works, I'd look at resetting the Photoshop preference file (found in the FAQ).

Yes the file in the folder is most often a jpg, and when in Photoshop i use the save as which give me the usual window with one field to name my file and another below that has the format with the drop down list to chose another format if necessary.

Like I said sometime after several attempts it rights itself! I might look for an option to reset defaults just in case I touch something that I forgot.

            Thanks for your thoughts anyway.

Yes, that's what resetting preferences will do. Hold ctrl+shift+alt when you launch Photoshop. A confirmation dialog will appear, asking if you want to delete preferences. If you don't get the dialog, try again.

The preferences can also be deleted manually. The procedure is described in the FAQ.

I  just done this and try another time.

I open a file jpg, and when I duplicate it

Do some work on it and save it with no difference. But when I duplicate it it already takes the extension away! So it did not make any dif.!
