1. Re: Firewire devices all showing "offline" in CS4
Harm Millaard Dec 10, 2009 7:26 AM (in response to Stanley Arthur)For HDV you should try HDVSplit, much better than PR, because it is free, offers scene detection, preview during capture and avoids the dreaded OOS (out-of-sync) errors. For DV try Scenalyzer.

Stanley Arthur Dec 10, 2009 7:49 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)Thanks, Harm. I'll check it out. I typically don't have any issues with PPro capture. Been using it for years without any problems. I did capture on this workstation successfully when it was CS3 with WinXP 32b. Hope I can resolve this.

Harm Millaard Dec 10, 2009 7:55 AM (in response to Stanley Arthur)Things that can mess up recognition of FW devices is when devices are daisy chained, when the uncore is clocked too high or when the PCIe bus is overclocked too high. But Windows recognizes the device. So in this case none of the arguments above may apply. It may be something in PR.

4. Re: Firewire devices all showing "offline" in CS4
Stanley Arthur Dec 10, 2009 8:21 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)I did download HDVSplit, but when it started, again it showed the deck as "not connected". Then something interesting happened. I turned the deck off and back on again. for the first time, I got the window asking what program I wanted to start. Yay! It gave me the options of On Location or PPro. Just for fun, I started OL and bingo, I had picture and sound. I exited OL and turned the deck off and on again, got the requester again and chose PPro. I started a new project with a DV Widescreen sequence, hit F5 for the capture and magically now it all works. This was after trying at least 20 times in my original project to get input via firewire. So then I switched to my GY HD-110 camera for an HDV capture, started a new HDV sequence and again, it all worked. I'm now capturing an 80-minute tape with scene detect. All is well.

Cartiva_Inc Dec 10, 2009 8:24 AM (in response to Stanley Arthur)I used to have similar trouble getting firewire devices to show up. What I had to do was the following:
1. Unplug the firewire cable from the the pc and make sure the camera is off.
2. Reboot the PC with the camera off and the firewire unplugged so it boots up 'fresh'
3. Shut down the PC completely with the firewire unplugged.
4. With the PC shut down, plug in the firewire and turn on the camera to VCR mode or whatever you use when capturing.
5. Boot up the PC with the camera plugged in and turned on.
