1. Re: Pasting in transparent pixels from Photoshop? How?
markerline Dec 10, 2009 7:15 PM (in response to TF22Raptor2)That shouldn't happen. You have to make sure you save a PSD file from photoshop with the default Background layer deleted from the file. Leave only the graphic with its surrounding transparencies, save the file as a .psd and then Place... the image in Illustrator. You can test if it worked by creating an object with color other than the default Illustrator artboard color (white) and moving this below the placed PSD image in the Layer panel.

TF22Raptor2 Dec 10, 2009 7:47 PM (in response to markerline)So marketer is place the only method in doing this. I am trying to simply copy and paste from photoshop without having to use place etc.

3. Re: Pasting in transparent pixels from Photoshop? How?
markerline Dec 10, 2009 11:58 PM (in response to TF22Raptor2)I was having problems with the forum earlier. (so I couldn't post). Anyway, copying and pasting between photoshop and illustrator is not balanced. When you copy an Illustrator object and paste it into Photoshop you can use a pasting method called "Smart Object" but if you copy from photoshop to Illustrator you don't have those "Smart Objects" so things like transparency don't get preserved. But using the File>Place... method in Illustrator you have options with a dialog box that comes up so transparency gets preserved depending on what option you choose. Just copying and pasting doesn't work, at least not when I tried it in CS4 on Windows. Use "Place..." for your desired results.

Mylenium Dec 11, 2009 3:49 AM (in response to TF22Raptor2)As markerline said, simply place the file in AI to avoid the issue. Also check the color space and color profile settings in both programs as well as AI's flattener settings. A "paper color" added to transparent content might point to inconsistencies there as well.
