Does everything else still work? I might suspect it replaced a file somewhere with an older version, in fact, so now everything suddenly works... Hard to tell without having monitored the install, but surely something like that. anyway, if it solves the problem, all the better
Yes, everything else still works. As i installed a Photoshop plug-in, i thought reporting this might give a clue of what causes the crashes.
Just an update : about one week after posting this message, problems started over again : AE and Illustrator crash at startup, but work from a new user account.
I didn't install new software. Couldn't find what changed. This week, my MAC didn't start. I booted from a CD and restored the HD from my Time Machine. The backup i used was december 15, when the crash problems were still there. After the restore, problems are gone! I know it won't last, but this might give a cue on what is going wrong; i am more and more convinced that this is a "security" bug that prevents software to access system files.
Since you speak of Time Machine, couldn't that be part of the problem all along? Maybe it's doing odd things to your files?
The Time Machine is just a backup device (wifi router + disk drive), and as such it is a passive device. But of course the backup/restore software might be part of the problem. I don't know.
.... and , if the problem is with my "Time Machine" or the backup/restore software, why is it impacting ONLY Adobe software? I have AE, Illustrator and Bridge all crashing in AdobePDFL. (Bridge crashes only when attempting to display Illustrator files.). Backup/Restore won't change file contents, but might change permissions. I think this is a better candidate to look at.
Hmm. Crashes in PDFL are almost exclusively caused by a corrupt font (or font cache) on the system.
Have you checked them?
Yes, I have checked them. Shared fonts are not a problem as AE works from another user account.
Account specific fonts (users//library/fonts) : have checked them with Font Book and Font Doctor : no problem.
Well, there goes the easy diax .
Do you get an Adobe Crash Reporter (you can put in your email) or Apple Crash Report dialog after the crash?
Looking at the stack crawl may give a good idea as to what is going on.
Yes, I get an Adobe Crash Report, in fact i have so much CR's that i needed to remove some (after sending the reports to Adobe).
I have looked at the stack, but didn't find a clue of what is going on.
AE crashes in AdobePDFL with "invalid access" and Illustrator with "segment fault".
All my other applications (autodesk maya, mudbox & Poser & DAZ Studio & Cinema4D) work fine.
The only thing is that i get autorisation problems from time to time like iTune displaying : "this computer is not authorized to play this song", then , after entering my admin password (my user account is an admin), it's ok.
That's why i have the impression that there Adobe software is getting access privilege problems because OSX messes it up.
