I have tried the steps listed at the download site you recommended. I have tried this same maneuver before unsuccessfully. The steps I have taken were:
1. download the patchpackage.msp (successful)
2. In Command Prompt, I type in . Nothing happens. Not a valid command.
Can you explain how I do the command prompt thing? Never used command prompt before.
Hi Nancy O,
Yes, I was able to do that part ok. From there on I ran into problems with what to type into the command prompt field. The instructions say to go to the place where the download is located and then type in the <msiexec/update patchpackage.msp> THERE. Can that be right? I think I'm missing a step here?
Thanks for your help.
That's correct. It means you need to navigate in the command prompt to where the file is located. I believe it is still the same old "cd" command to change the directory to where the file is located. Otherwise, you can just substitute the "patchpackage.msp" text with the full path to your file ie: C:/Users/Username/User Documents/...etc./patchpackage.msp.
From MS Web site:
Here’s a trick to install 8.02 patch of Dreamweaver on Windows 7 machine.
1. Download the file from the link below.
2. Unzip the installer to a folder which can be easily located.
3. Now run a command prompt in elevated mode.
To do so,
a) Go to start and type cmd in the search field.
b) Right click on cmd from the list and choose run as Administrator.
4. Navigate to the saved folder where patchpackage.msp file is located and type in the following.
msiexec /update patchpackage.msp
5. Press Enter.
6. The patch will begin to install.
By now you should have successfully installed 8.02 patch.
Make sure you UNZIP the installer file and Save it to an easily accessed folder on your hard drive such as MYDOWNLOADS or whatever folder you typically use. If you're unable to save or access the file, you need to log-off and log-on as Administrator.
Browse to the file and type the command string exactly as shown above. It should work.
Thanks for the command string. I entered the following at the cmd prompt which I opened as administrator:
C:/Users/Clyde/Downloads/msiexec /update patchpackage.msp
I hit enter and received message "not a recognized path...." ???
Still trying. Thanks for your suggestions. See my recent response in SnakEyez02 string for my current situation.
I have Windows 7, and the command prompt as administrator looks like this:
C:\Windows\system32> * Is this the correct prompt??
After that I have typed the following * C:\Windows\Users\Clyde\Downloads\msiexec /update patchpackage.msp * Shouldn't I add some kind of command like "run" or something?
Downloads is where the patch has been downloaded to.
I know how precise one must be with a command string. Perhaps I have some glaring fault here which I cannot see, but which you can see with those penetrating eyes of yours.
Everytime I try to execute this command string, nada! Says "path not recognized " or "not a valid command"
