- While using Premiere Pro CS4, if I click out of it for any reason, ex: adjusting volume on the taskbar (no other application [photoshop, after effects, etc.] running) or toggling to another application, Premiere Pro crashes and a new windows appears:
"Adobe has detected that the applicationAdobe Premiere Pro CS4 has unexpectedly quit. A crash report has been generated. Adobe will use this crash report to help find a future solution to this problem."
The first time I got this, I decided to fill out the crash report and send it in, but not since.
Please let me know if there's any other information I can provide that will help find a cause for this problem.

3. Re: Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes every time I toggle to another application
Harm Millaard Jan 11, 2010 11:37 AM (in response to Stanley Arthur)Stan,
Some things pop-up while reading your specs.
First, update to 4.2.1
Second, check your video driver. It may not be the most current one. Not only check the Dell site, but also the Intel site.
Third, ensure that indexing and compression is turned off for that single disk.
Next, get another internal or eSATA disk as a minimum, preferably 2 or more.
Post a screenshot from Process Explorer, showing what processe are running. This being a Dell, it probably runs a lot of crap.

4. Re: Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes every time I toggle to another application
Stanley Arthur Jan 11, 2010 12:41 PM (in response to Harm Millaard)Thanks, Harm. My PPro version is 4.2.1, not 4.2 as I had indicated previously.
My graphics driver is the most current listed for the GM965.
I'm curious as to why I would need a second internal HDD when I do all my work from media contained on two external HDDs.
Please see the attached screenshot of running processes that you requested.

5. Re: Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes every time I toggle to another application
Stanley Arthur Jan 11, 2010 12:48 PM (in response to Stanley Arthur)Additionally, I am trying to ascertain whether or not indexing and compression are off, but I had to turn that over to an IT guy, as I am not a computer pro as well as a video pro.

Stanley Arthur Jan 11, 2010 12:56 PM (in response to Stanley Arthur)Compression was off. Indexing was on, so I turned it off.

7. Re: Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes every time I toggle to another application
Harm Millaard Jan 11, 2010 1:55 PM (in response to Stanley Arthur)Turning indexing off will help enormously. Turning off AVG will also help. Can you run Process Explorer, not Task Manager and post the screen shot? Please, it gives so much more relevant info. Also kill Conhost for the time being.

8. Re: Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes every time I toggle to another application
Stanley Arthur Jan 12, 2010 7:36 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)Took me a while to figure out that Process Explorer was not something I already had. Please see the new attached screenshot.
I couldn't kill AVG, so I uninstalled it.

9. Re: Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes every time I toggle to another application
Harm Millaard Jan 12, 2010 7:47 AM (in response to Stanley Arthur)What is the igf utlitity from Microsoft? For the rest you have a nice clean machine. You could turn off Groove Monitor, but your biggest gain is turning indexing off.

10. Re: Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes every time I toggle to another application
Stanley Arthur Jan 12, 2010 8:07 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)Well, points for you, Harm. Since turning off indexing and uninstalling AVG, PPro continues to run, even after performing such tasks as taskbar volume change and replace with After Effects Composition. I'll see if I can figure out what igf is.
Thanks again for all your help.
-Stan
