Publishing a project containing a Flash video

I have created a training module that has a short flash video in it.  I am working in Captivate 8.  When I preview the project in Captivate it works fine.  When I publish it and select "view output" at completion it works fine.  When I go into the file after this time, the slide with the video is gone.

I am at a loss for what might be causing this.  I saw some previous threads saying that I might need to know what version the Flash video was created in.  Not sure what Flash version it was designed for, but it was published out of the Pinnacle software if that helps any.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi there

Are you possibly meaning RoboHelp 8 and combining Captivate 4 with it?

Have you ensured that you copied the FLV to the same location as the Captivate file?

Cheers... Rick

You're working in Captivate 8? We're only up to CP4!

If it's indeed a conflict between the video and captivate it could be the video was published using flash player 10 but you're publishing your CP file at 9. Trying publishing at Flash player version 10 and see what happens.

Sorry! That was a typo. I'm working in Captivate 4.

I tried publishing in Flash Player 10 and this time the slide did not disappear all together, but the video still did not play.

I received some other feedback suggesting I compress the video into a Shockwave Flash Object before importing it. I'm not sure how to do this - any ideas?

Perhaps it would be good to back up a bit to see exactly what kind of media you have.

Obviously a Captivate 4 file

And

A video file. Rick assumed this is .FLV, please confirm.

Your feedback to convert to shockwave flash isn't helpful. If you have a .FLV maybe they suggest convert to .swf? Sounds like someone is fishing for a solution.

If possible if you could provide us with the files or some scaled down example I could shead some light on what's going on.

It is a .flv file. I have been unable to send the .flv file to anyone because of its size. I can send a few slides from the captivate file including the one containing the video if that will help. I attached the published version here - not sure if attachments work in the forum, if not let me know and I'll email it. The video is about 3/4 the way into the file - after the slide titled "Packing". This copy was published to be compatible with Flash 10.

In order to investigate you'll need to provide the files. There's a website yousendit.com that allows you to transfer files up to 100 MB for free, of if you have a FTP server you can upload and send the link.

I can send the files through the yousendit.com site. Can you give me your email for me to send them to you?

This is a guess based on my experience exporting CP4 to flash but it may help...

Could it be an actionscript version problem? CP4 creates AS2 projects with AS2 preloaders as standard. If the flv has actionscript 3 in it this could be an issue. In the publish setting change the actionscript version and select an appropriate corresponding preloader (I've found that CP4 does not reliably select an appropriate preloader so do it manually in Publish Preferences > Start and End).

Conversely you may be using AS3 and the flv AS2... same solution applies

Hope this helps!
