1. Re: Loading CS4 on new drive
Bill Hunt Jan 17, 2010 1:44 PM (in response to Hatteras Photo)If your CS4 is an upgrade from CS3, you should be able to just use the CS3 installation DVD, when asked, and install CS4 from there. You should not have to first install CS3.
If the old HDD can be hooked back up later, you might leave CS3 alone for now, and when things are up and running properly on the new HDD, then Deactivate it from the old drive. There should not be an issue with an Activated copy of CS3 and a new installation of the upgraded CS4. Unless things have changed drastically, I had both CS and CS2 installed and Activated on my two machines, with no issues. When all was good, I just Deactivated both CS installations and removed them.
Good luck,
Hunt

3. Re: Loading CS4 on new drive
Bill Hunt Jan 17, 2010 2:42 PM (in response to Hatteras Photo)Good luck, and if you find out otherwise, please report. I only have CS2, but have had all other versions (save for 5.5), and have never had to do more than furnish the install module with my version disk, when upgrading - no reinstallation of previous versions. However, Adobe does make changes to their schemes, so I cannot be 100% positive with later versions.

4. Re: Loading CS4 on new drive
dec9 Jan 17, 2010 2:47 PM (in response to Hatteras Photo)Cs4 will ask for the CS4 serial number first, then verify, then after that CS4 will ask you to select what version you are upgrading from (CS3) then you type in the CS3 serial number. All should be well if your connected to the internet.

5. Re: Loading CS4 on new drive
Bill Hunt Jan 17, 2010 4:28 PM (in response to dec9)Dec9,
Thanks for that input. In days gone by, the S/N would indicate an upgrade, and then the installer would "do the math," asking for proof of the previous version, via either an installation (one would navigate to that folder), or the installation disc. This is a small change, but one that a user should know of.
Appreciated,
Hunt

dec9 Jan 17, 2010 5:45 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Your welcome. I just put a 1TB main hard drive on this computer and the install process was still fresh in my mind.

Oh how I envy you your youth. My wife will ask me, "when you spoke to my brother yesterday, what did he say about _____?" Me: "I spoke to your brother yesterday?"
Again, thanks for the clarification,
Hunt
