1. Re: After Effects running TERRIBLY on HP Pavillion DV8 notebook - Please Help!
Andrew Yoole Jan 22, 2010 2:41 PM (in response to Chas Naylor)Try temporarily removing the Open GL plugin altogether from the Plugins folder, restarting AE after doing so.
Try turning multiprocessing off.
Investigate options for replacing the graphics card driver, even if it's not officially sanctioned by HP. Go direct to NVIDIA and see what is available.

Chas Naylor Jan 22, 2010 6:56 PM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)Andrew - thanks for the attempt, but these things don't clear up the issue. I have tried pulling out the openGL plug, run it with multiprocessing on and off, and any drivers beyond the one that I have (and there are only three little version increments that I could find) will not install due to HP's restrictions. I'd have a hard time believing that it was simply the driver though with everything else working well, and with this happening with all GPU acceleration turned off.
Todd - I read the article, interesting stuff and I will keep these points in mind, but even if I strip everything down and don't turn on multi-processing (thereby nullifying the the main points of the article, I think) I still have the problem. I DO have a wacom driver and tablet installed, but this is happening even when I use just an MS mouse or even the track pad. Why do you ask? Could the wacom driver have something to do with it? (It is an intuos 3)
But I do appreciate the attempts. Any other ideas? Anyone else? Again please help

Perhaps. Wacom and Adobe have identified a problem with some Wacom drivers.
There's a thread here about the Wacom driver problem:

Chas Naylor Jan 22, 2010 11:15 PM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)Well sunuvagun, that did it. Yeah I saw that thread you referred me to a little after I replied again. So that plus your advice lead me to try stripping out wacom and it worked. Sadly I had to completely uninstall the driver, as the Windows 7 task manager wouldn't let me end the process myself (HIGHLY. ANNOYING...anyone with a workaround to that I'm all ears).
So, uhhhhhh, I guess I go without a tablet until this gets sorted!?! Bummer
But at least AE works
Thanks Todd

Chas Naylor Jan 30, 2010 4:01 PM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)Just a little FYI:
Wacom has updated their driver. Everything seems to be working fine now.
If you were having problems similar to mine go download the new driver!!!

The After Effects CS4 (9.0.3) update fixes several problems, including a problem with Wacom drivers and After Effects performance.
