1. Re: No audio after import??
Bill Hunt Jan 20, 2010 12:39 PM (in response to TorQue[MoD])I even exported the audio as an mpeg2 stream and loaded it in separately from the video! Nothing works.
Can you change this test slightly? Export a PCM/WAV file, Audio-only, at 48KHz 16-bit, and Import that as an Asset. Do you now have Audio?
As a second test, Import a known good WAV into Encore and test that, to make sure that there is not some Audio setting that has been accidently changed.
Good luck, and let us know how the tests go,
Hunt

2. Re: No audio after import??
Bill Hunt Jan 20, 2010 12:48 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Just in case it's a simple Audio setting, here is a look at my Preferences setting's screen. Your's will obviously be for your Audio hardware, but should be similar. This is from Edit>Preferences>Audio/Video Out> Audio Output Devices:
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - if you do not have the very latest audio driver installed, also get the very latest and install that. A simple OS update can kill these instantly.

3. Re: No audio after import??
TorQue[MoD] Jan 20, 2010 11:05 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Ok. I imported a working wav file and that played fine. Since I was waiting for someone to reply to my post, I exported the entire video as an mp4 with the h264 codec (which is the format the first disc was in) and it STILL does not play the sound.
I'm going to try to export the audio as a PCM and see if that solves the problem.
Thanks for the suggestions.
My audio drivers are up to date btw.

4. Re: No audio after import??
TorQue[MoD] Jan 20, 2010 11:22 PM (in response to TorQue[MoD])Ok, so I exported the audio as a pcm and imported it and it DOES play. I just hope there aren't any synch issues when the disc
is burned. I'll let you know how it turns out in the morning!Thank you. -
5. Re: No audio after import??
Bill Hunt Jan 21, 2010 11:44 AM (in response to TorQue[MoD])I exported the audio as a pcm and imported it and it DOES play.
That is good news. PCM/WAV is a very safe format, and almost always works. It is also one of the "approved" primary Audio streams.
Hope all goes well,
Hunt

6. Re: No audio after import??
TorQue[MoD] Jan 21, 2010 6:15 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Yes, I managed to get everything working thank to your help. The weird thing though is that the first disc worked without a hitch because it was a straight import of the mp4 and then burn to disc whereas Disc 2 I had to make some changes to the audio in places which involved me adding a second audio track in premiere's timeline and this seems to have completely screwed up the file's import ability with Encore. Even weirder is how exporting a new mp4 and trying to import that directly didn't work either.
Hopefully Disc 3 will be trouble free.

7. Re: No audio after import??
Bill Hunt Jan 23, 2010 8:56 PM (in response to TorQue[MoD])Peter,
Remember that the primary Audio stream MUST be PCM/WAV, or DD AC3. For NTSC, no other format will work. For PAL, MPEG Audio is a optional format, but that is being phase out.
Now, for supplemental Audio formats, there are other choices, but they MUST be on Audio Track 2, or higher.
Also, Encore does seem to have issues with some muxed files. That is one reason that I always Import elemental/elementary streams - one Video-only and one Audio-only (PCM/WAV, or DD 5.1 SS AC3 in my case).
Good luck,
Hunt

8. Re: No audio after import??
TorQue[MoD] Jan 23, 2010 9:36 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Oh ok. I didn't realize that those were the only audio types supported by NTSC. I actually just figured Encore would convert them to whatever format they needed to be in during the transcoding phase.
I managed to get all 3 discs working (disc 3 had the same issues as 2 which is odd since 1 worked straight off) so I don't think I'll be making any more DVDs for a long while, but its great to know.
Also hopefully if anyone else encounters the same problem they'll be able to find the solution here.
Thanks Bill!

9. Re: No audio after import??
Bill Hunt Jan 24, 2010 11:10 AM (in response to TorQue[MoD])You are most welcome. Glad that something was helpful.
Remember that Encore is ONLY an authoring application. It does a very poor job at conversion at any level. I keep its role in the workflow to a very limited, narrow focus - just author and burn my DVD's. I prepare all Assets in PrPro, or Audition, or PS, exactly as Encore will want them. It's rather boring, 'cause each Project gets handled the same exact way - other than artistic decisions, or changes in navigation, it's all very simple, and Encore loves me for it.
Happy authoring,
Hunt
