1. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
Curt Y Jan 21, 2010 8:12 PM (in response to Hatteras Photo)OK, lots of questions here, and as usual I may not read you right.
If you click on Label will it accept a label and rating? If not what does it do?
Do you have labels and ratings set up correctly in edit/labels?
Reading through you post several times I think the problem may be a conflict with old cache and new cache, and new OS. I would purge the cache in edit/preferences/cache and then let it rebuild. You will have to visit each folder to re-index the thumbs.
Try that and see if your problems are at least different.
If you want to be more adventuresome you could just reset all preferences by holding down the Ctrl key and click on start icon for Bridge. You will get a reset window and you can choose 1 or all 3 options.

2. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
Hatteras Photo Jan 21, 2010 8:40 PM (in response to Curt Y)reset everything .....no change. I have a drive for raw and a drive for work files. I changed main drive that had Vista and CS3 on it to a new drive that I just loaded Win 7 64 bit and CS4. Any pictures I download now rating and labels work fine......although most the the Filter categories are missing. The biggest problem is when I go to any of these older drives (some pictures are just from last week) I try to set a label or rating and nothing happens. Even if I click REJECT ...nothing. But if I go to Edit after I see a undo Rating or Label....so something is happening. Also if I click on one of the dots under the thumb nail I get a star. But If I try to filter by stars noting is there. Or if I close out Bridge and restart the star is gone. Once again anything new I download works fine. I don`t see why it won`t work with any of the photos that were pre CS4. Thanks again Peter

3. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
The Peoples Poet Jan 22, 2010 2:23 AM (in response to Hatteras Photo)I submitted a similar post into the 'bridge' forum a while back and failed to get a great deal of response.
similar things are happening to me.
particularly the 'filter' element where when when you first load images all the filters appear and then just go.
its completely random which filters remain as searchable and which go completely.
i have tried all the usual resets that are offen suggested which have all failed.
personally im putting this down to a win7 64 bit issue
as it worked ok in vista.
I also loaded PS elements 7 as i got a copy free with a wacom.
not sure if this changed things but there are areas of the downloader that not longer function.
its a shame that my most expensive s/w is so full of bugs.
google picassa is free and handles files at lightning speed and never fails. just a subnote for search comparisms
im aware its no CS4, but surely those adobe guys could do better than this.

4. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
Curt Y Jan 22, 2010 7:23 AM (in response to Hatteras Photo)This is all very strange. Since the new files work and old did not I thought perhaps there was a conflict with the old cache info for the file. The missing filter categories was also a symptom of bad cache info. Dissappointing that purging the cache did not change anything.
Are you using external drives? If so it could be a permissioning problem.
You are using CS4 bridge and not CS3 bridge?

5. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
The Peoples Poet Jan 22, 2010 8:40 AM (in response to Curt Y)hi I'm using
CS4 EXT in windows 7 (64 bit). pretty high spec pc.
all the files are stored locally and not on remote drives.
when i purge/re-build the cache either complete or individual folders, i notice the filter elements re-appear
whilst the build takes place then dissapear when its complete.
most pre (win 7 upgd) folders seem to be ok, though not all.
the filters that go missing are variable there is no consistancy.
interesting i recently imported a CD of wedding pics and all the filters and all else worked fine.
maybe a coincidence im not sure.
ive also tried moving individual pictures to an external disk then back into another folder.
same thing, filters dissapear.
this is so annoying, i wish there was a solution.

6. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
Curt Y Jan 22, 2010 10:03 AM (in response to The Peoples Poet)I am still running CS3 and Vista, so can not "play" with my system to see what you guys see.
It could be a bug with Win7 and CS4, only time will tell if more users make the switch and report the same problems.
As far as fixes, the problem has to be defined well enough so a bug report can be submitted by a user like you. It Adobe can re-create the problem in the lab then they can work on a fix. Might be worth it as you two seem to have similar problems.
But the hard reality is that CS5 will be out soon and it will be built with Win7 64 bit. So how much work will be done on CS4 will probably be minimal.
You might try a few modifications with Windows, like turning off Aero or other fancy display options and see it it changes anything. Since it worked in Vista it is probably something MS added or subtracted when they developed Win7 and is causing the problem.
Just my two cents worth, or with inflation since that saying was valid, my two dollars worth.

7. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
Hatteras Photo Jan 25, 2010 12:39 PM (in response to Hatteras Photo)Well I solved the major part of my problem with rating and labels. Filter problem remains but I can live with it I guess. I found not only could I not label or rate from Bridge. I also couldn't Delete a photo ether. This seemed like a permission problem so I went looking. I found that in resent photos I was listed as a user with full permissions along with Adm. In all the older files left from CS3 I was not listed as a user. A very long and odd number was listed in my place. If I right click Bridge and say open as Administrator every thing works fine with rating, labels and delete. I have no idea where this long number came from as a user and I don't think I could or would want to risk changing all these permissions. So I guess when I want to work on any of these older files I will just log on as Administrator in Bridge. Does anyone know where this odd number came from and how it was set as a user ? Anyway at least I can move on with these files........Peter

8. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
Hatteras Photo Jan 25, 2010 12:42 PM (in response to Hatteras Photo)This was a windows 7 permision problem. I have no idea how it happened but I can get around it by right clicking Bridge and run as Administrator

9. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
elrikegericke May 14, 2011 1:11 AM (in response to Hatteras Photo)I only recently started to use Windows 7. At first Bridge was woring fine. As I started editing I noticed that Photoshop does not want to save the photographs because it does not have Administrator authorisation. I now have to go into the properties field, click on the security tab, under Group or user names I have to click on users and change the permissions for each photo. I do not know enough about Windows 7 to do this for multiple photos at a time, but as soon as I do this for raw files, I am able to star them in Bridge - an option that is not available before going through the mentioned steps - and then the 'rating' tab appears again under filters as soon as I star one of the files. I suppose this is a Windows 7 problem and the way that the users and administrator are set up, because I have never encoutered this problem before.

10. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
Curt Y May 14, 2011 10:24 AM (in response to elrikegericke)Not enought of a computer whiz to say what yu need to do, but as you surmised it needs to be done in Win7. Somehow you need to see how Bridge was set up for permissin level when you installed. Don't have Bridge on this computer but you might try rightclicking on Bridge.exe and go to properties.
Do a web search to see how you can chage permission levels. If you and an exteral drive that complicates things.
If the images are all "locked" as read only used ctrl A to selecte all, right click, then choose unlock.

11. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
Hatteras Photo May 14, 2011 6:55 PM (in response to elrikegericke)right click the Bridge icon and choose "run as administrator" to open it. This then gives you permission to rate and change your photos. You have to remember to do this every time you want to open Bridge to work on older photos...which sucks for sure. Just another brilliant move by Microsoft and Adobe......

12. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
Curt Y May 15, 2011 10:07 AM (in response to Hatteras Photo)There is a way to change this within the OS, but
do not know what windows to open to
get there. Some have done this so know it is possible to
change permission levels. Depends on how Bridge was installed.

OutsideShooter Jul 23, 2011 10:35 AM (in response to Curt Y)I've navigated to C Drive> Programs> Adobe> Bridge> right click and Properties, then Security, then Edit then changed to Full permission. But still it will not allow me. I wonder now if I need to reinstall Bridge.

14. Re: CS4 Bridge rating and label problem
Hatteras Photo Jul 23, 2011 3:17 PM (in response to OutsideShooter)It just seems that the biggest operating system on the planet and the biggest photo editing program on the planet can`t figure out how to work together.......reminds you of something doesn`t it.......kind of like American politicians or maybe even world governments. Not much cooperation in this world anymore........just a mad chase for larger and larger profits........sad.
