I am a newbe to this forum (just joined today) and have a very lot to learn about it.    I am presently using Photoshop CS3 with a Windows XP (32bit) system.  I want to purchase a new computer with Windows 7 (64 bit) operating system.  Will my CS3 run on this new computer?   Will it be beter to upgrade to Photoshop CS4?   What is the cost to upgrade from CS3 to CS4, I did not see it posted on the Adobe www site.  I would appreciate any information that will be helpfull in my transition from Windows XP (32 bit) to Windows 7 (64 bit) systems.

Thanks, Norm Perry

Hi,

When you purchase Windows 7 do you need to specify which bit version (32 bit or 64 bit)?  I gess my question is how do you distinguish between a 32 bit installation or a 64 bit instalation?

Thanks, Norm.

You install one or the other.

Home Premium seems to be all that's required. I am running C3 and C4 (earlier) on Win7 Ultimate 64. No problems to speak of. Well, on one stitched image, XP did a better job, but Win7 was faster. Sorta like people "I can do it right or I can do it right now!"

When you purchase, you pick which version you want, 32 or 64. 64 is more money.

But I reapeat myself!

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/64-bit-support

"Whichever system you choose, Windows 7 is ready. All packaged retail editions of Windows 7 (except for Home Basic) include both 32- and 64-bit software."  So if you have Home Premium or upwards, you have both versions and choose which one you want at installation time.

Look here for an FAQ on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows:

Newegg shows separate pricing for 32 and 64 bit. If anyone knows otherwise, I'd like to know.

Hi Hudechrome,

You only get the choice with the OEM versions.  The retail pack of 7 has two DVDs - 64 & 32 bit.

Njperry,

You can always check compatibility directly at the Microsoft Windows 7 Compatibility Center available here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

Should you require additional assistance and feedback, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/w7itpro. It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams.
