1. Re: help with blu ray
Giorgio1957 Feb 13, 2010 8:08 AM (in response to Studio North Films)mpeg2 is the quickest way to encode, as H264 takes more more times.
I've read on the web (just read not tested) that mpeg is easily played by the most of BR player.
Both exports are editable in encore, but you had to know, in case you have 5.1 dolby audio, you can't use Dynamic link but import, drag and drop audio file in its timeline track.
If you're moving "old" movies to HD do not expect any sensitive changement.
DVD will keep its own definition, as I said " from a donkey, you can't expect to have a racing horse"
These are the first steps

3. Re: help with blu ray
Giorgio1957 Feb 13, 2010 10:43 AM (in response to Studio North Films)It depends.......
You can choose if transcode your files or not.
Example: if your project exceed the media capacity (too big for the DVD), you can trancode it to set the proper size.
Otherwise you can also choose "not transcode": in this way nothing will be "touched" and you will create your DVD just adding chapters, menus or just burning your project directly.

6. Re: help with blu ray
Giorgio1957 Feb 13, 2010 12:23 PM (in response to Studio North Films)Usually, as default, .ac3 audio isn't transcoded.
About movie you can choose two option:
File\Transcode Preset (something like this, I've an italian release)then you'll see, at the bottom of BlueRay window, do not transcode option.
You can also right click your file and choose not transcode from here.
Be carefull because in the default project windows you can see DVD settings, if you want to see BlueRay, you had to scroll rightward to find BlueRay.

8. Re: help with blu ray
Giorgio1957 Feb 13, 2010 12:46 PM (in response to Studio North Films)So, step by step:
you have all your files in the project window, ok?
now do this:
point the mouse arrow over the "to be transcoded" file, right click
choose transcode option (the first on the top) left click
a window appears with DVD on the top and BlueRay at the bottom
click over preset quality (the last one at the bottom)
a smaller window appears and, at the bottom, you must have not transcode (after automatic)
This is what I'm seeing now on my project

10. Re: help with blu ray
Giorgio1957 Feb 13, 2010 1:04 PM (in response to Studio North Films)I do not have a progressive footage to check.
Could be, don't know.
Anyway let Encore transcode your movie, if it wants to
Do a BlueRay folder or a Blue RAY Imagine first, in this way you'll see if everything is OK without wasting discs

11. Re: help with blu ray
Studio North Films Feb 13, 2010 1:10 PM (in response to Giorgio1957)I will try with a non progressive file, the whole idea was for quick workflow, I can encode projects very fast. did not want to wait hours to transcode a blu ray.
thanks for you help. I will be in touch

14. Re: help with blu ray
Studio North Films Feb 14, 2010 3:57 AM (in response to Studio North Films)ok people,
I need to confirm if a mpeg-2 blu ray file must be trancoded in encore ???
I have tried with a elemental mpeg-2 bluray & Adobe Premier Mpeg-2 bluray, when i import as assett into encore the video file still rquires transcode, the audio does not. -
15. Re: help with blu ray
Giorgio1957 Feb 14, 2010 4:49 AM (in response to Studio North Films)I'm working just right now at an mpeg2 BlueRay project in Encore.
From Premiere I've exported it using default PAL HighQuality setting (downgrading the bitrate to 10 minimum, 20 target, 25 maximum).
Imported as asset in Encore, video asked to be transcode but I have choosen NOT TRANSCODE as I told yesterday.
Do not know where your "not transcode" is hidden

16. Re: help with blu ray
Studio North Films Feb 14, 2010 5:00 AM (in response to Giorgio1957)hi,
I have just done several tests
this is using xdcam hd footage 1920x1080p 25 HQ, Exported to AME using HDTV 1080i HQ, with export h264 in encore does not require transcoding, with mpeg-2 bluray does require transcoding, this could be due to the export type file. I will try with the same settings as you and see what happens.

17. Re: help with blu ray
Giorgio1957 Feb 14, 2010 5:03 AM (in response to Studio North Films)Check first in Create\Verify Project: does the window display the project is bigger than the media.
In this case you MUST transcode

18. Re: help with blu ray
Studio North Films Feb 14, 2010 5:10 AM (in response to Giorgio1957)hi, the project i am testing is only 1 min in lenth and only 150mb, I have just done another test with the pal setting as you, with 1920x1080. and it still requores transcodeing. I Have tried AME mpeg-2 bluray and elemental mpeg-2 bluray.

19. Re: help with blu ray
Giorgio1957 Feb 14, 2010 5:15 AM (in response to Giorgio1957)Transcode is sometimes absolutely important.
Example: you can choose to export you project from Premiere as an uncompressed one.
DVDs and Blue Ray do not read this format so you had to change it in a suitable format: this is transcoding.
Another example is when you export a movie that exceed the media size (carefull: a 25 Gb BlueRay disc is not really 25 but more than 1Gb less),
In this way, you had to resize the movie to be stored in a "smaller" media. This is another way when transcoding is needed.
Hope it helps

Studio North Films Feb 14, 2010 9:39 AM (in response to Giorgio1957)hi,
this is a video file XDCAM EX 1920x1080p 25 HQ, if someone can try this in mpeg-2 bluray in 1920x1080 to see if it still requires transcoding or not when in encore.
thanks

23. Re: help with blu ray
Giorgio1957 Feb 15, 2010 9:12 AM (in response to Studio North Films)Well,
can't open original file with my sw players (QuickTime tells me there are some corrupted files, but, anyway, it does not matter).
So, this is what I've done:
-Imported in Premiere without problems
-set the size as 92% so I can export without cuts
-output as "mpgeg2 BlueRay HDTV 1080i High Quality" without problems
-open Encore Project as mpeg2BlueRay 1920x1080
-imported new "premiered" file AS TIMELINE: audio does not need transcoding, video needs transcoding
-changed transcode preset as "not transcode" (File\Transcode Preset\BlueRay window\ not transcode)
-puff........ video file does not need any transcode
As I've said, be careful because, as default, in the project window, DVD SETTINGS APPEAR and NOT BLUE-RAY SETTINGS: you had to move\scroll to the right the Project window to see the BlueRay settings.
From the left to the right you'll see: Name-Type-Duration-DVD transcoding setting...........
That's all.
No, that isn't all: congratulation, nice shot.
Now that's all indeed.
Ciao

25. Re: help with blu ray
Giorgio1957 Feb 15, 2010 11:59 AM (in response to Studio North Films)Isn't there any "don't transcode" or do you see it but you can't click on it? (no highlighted)
If one of these questions should be your trouble, well, yes, I'd try a re-installation.
Not sure you'll be able to uninstall Encore only, I'm afraid you'll have to re-install Premiere and AME and..... also.
If this will be your decision follow these steps:
1) uninstall
2) run Adobe CS4 uninstaller (sometimes you have to install a windows uninstaller too, but it will be asked if needed)
3) run Adobe CS4 uninstaller
4) run Adobe CS4 uninstaller (points 3 and 4 are not a mistake)
5) turn off every security software you have installed and disconnect from internet (if you have some autoupdating sw could be a serious problem)
6) run the installation (better if this is full) as ADMIN RIGHTS
7) go for dinner with the XDCAM movie leading actress (ops, no, you have more than one disc to insert) (anyway later.....)
8) install the updates (I prefer download them and install as ADMINISTRATOR).
Saving the updates will be helpful for future reinstallation (crossing the fingers)
I hope have not missed any

Giorgio1957 Feb 16, 2010 11:11 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Dear Bill,
this makes me understand how is amusing and easy to take, seldom, a look to the threads giving answers when you want to, instead of being everytime on the forum with the goal to help everytime people who needs it.
Yes, you can also take advantage of this (sometimes), but the time you "waste" is more than the knowledge you gain.
Thanks for that, seriously
Honestly for me this has been bit difficult and sometimes over my knowledges, but I'm not a pro. Is this the spirit of the forum? I think yes.
I hope to be more helpful in future.
Ciao
P.S.: why do you spy MY threads? Old snoop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
