1. Re: CS4 Workflow - Premiere -->AE/Keylight --> Premiere
shooternz Feb 13, 2010 8:00 PM (in response to sync2rhythm)I dont usually bother with DL in the instance of Key work. *
I simply make an intermediate and this can be one of two ways.
One way is I do the entire key and composite in AEFX and export as an intermediate.
The other way is to do the key and export the intermediate with an alpha channel which works very well in PPRO
Reason I dont use DL is that if I get the key and /or composite correct, why would I need to revisit it from the PPRO project (and bog down my timeline).

What intermediate do you use?
(I think I would lean towards QT Animation +/- Alpha)
So, I would:
1. edit together my GreenScreen clips in PP (sometimes there are a few takes/clips/angles)
2. export these clips as a single QT Animation file
3. import to AE and Keylight
4. export a QT Animation +/- Alpha
5. finish edit in PP

The only thing I hate about going to AE is that I NEVER get Real-Time playback so it always seems like my AE timeling Bogged Down. It always seems like it goes 1sec/1frame. At 30fps... this can take a while.
Whereas, at least in PP I can actually play/view my edit. Only thing with DL workflow in this instance is that PP does not see/recognize Keylight.
Currently, my Keys look good... but I want them to look GREEAAAT; and AE/Keylight really does the trick.

3. Re: CS4 Workflow - Premiere -->AE/Keylight --> Premiere
shooternz Feb 14, 2010 11:19 AM (in response to sync2rhythm)I am on a Windows PC so I export .avi from AEFX with and without alpha depending on which of my workflows I am following.
I use the source file (or part of it)... not an export from PPRO but I do make my take selection in my PPRO edit.
Realtime is not an issue for me since I have selected/edited in PPRO. Generally my Key clips include synch sound so I must select in PPRO.
Even if I am only exporting the clip with alpha from AEFX, I always check the key against its reference BG as well l so I can produce the key exactly right.
You can see that I dont need DL to achieve the above and once I have the Keyed clips... I dont even have need for the AEFX Project once I have completed the whole job.

5. Re: CS4 Workflow - Premiere -->AE/Keylight --> Premiere
shooternz May 6, 2010 2:57 PM (in response to sync2rhythm)Ultra Key is totally awesome but there wil be occassions that I will still need to do a key in AEFX and KeyLight.
PPRO is limited in masking /rotoscoping with its lame garbage matte and track matte FX. (no invert, no edge softening, restricted G.Matte points...)
I often shoot keys that have objects (eg packs) that come close to or match the chroma BG. For this I need to mask those areas out. Would hate to try that in Ultra and PPRO.
AEFX nails it in that regard.

CandlelightPubl.com Jun 5, 2010 3:27 PM (in response to shooternz)Hi Shooter,
I finally received my CS5 Prod Suite late, after paying for expedited delivery (FedEx delivered it to wrong address.) Project due, no Adobe support on weekends, and I don't have an Ultra Key! How can that be? Below Time Remapping is Audio Effects not Ultra Key. Can you, or anyone out there, save a damsel in distress?

shooternz Jun 5, 2010 3:47 PM (in response to CandlelightPubl.com)I think its in the Key Effects Folder. ( not at my system as I type this from home)
Type Ultra in the Effects window Search Box (above the FX Folders)

I am in front of my CS5 system now and realised why you may not be seeing the Ultra Key Effect.
It is in the Effects> Keying Folder but...
It is an "Accelerated Effect"...so ensure that all the little folders at the top of the Effects Window are turned OFF before you search (and maybe turn on the Accelerated Effects Folder (one with the ARROW. Not 32 or YUV.).
Its takes a bit of getting used to this new little feature of the Effects Window. Not exactly sure I like it much actually.
