    create guides in monitor

      Hi!

Is ist possible to create guide-lines in the preview monitor like guides in photoshop to move videos precisely to a certain position?

Do that with an overlay track in the timeline. Create your guides in PS and overlay it in the timeline.

Here are some alignment grids - linked in this ARTICLE.

            Good luck,

PS - remember to either Delete them, or turn off Visibility for their Video Track, before you Export, or you WILL get them in the output footage.

...or quicker and more convenient still...create a custom guide in the Titler  as a Title.

The titler has align, centre and distribute to make it even more easier.

But one can also change the title safe and/or action safe area in the project settings, but it effects both monitors.

Actually, unless one is doing something simple, I find Titler to be a bit more work, than PS. I just do an Image New, choosing the proper Video Preset and then View>Grid. With the Pen Tool, I can easily and quickly create my Paths, in any increments that I want. Then, Stroke Paths does the job. Note: due to PAR differences, the new Guides might appear at different Stroke widths.

If I'm doing a lot of PiP, I'll build these with rectangles positioned and sized to suit. This really speeds up Keyframing Motion & Scale for me.

Maybe I just always look for a reason to fire up PS?

The reason I use the Titler inPPRO for such a simple job is that  one can immediately see the clip and other layers, graphics etc while one creates the guide.  This becomes easy to reference to where as using PS, one is working on a "blank canvas".

                      Craig,

For that type of "guide" I do agree, and for just the reason that you cite - you can see the underlying footage.

For a grid, I already have several for different formats, and just Import the PSD's. I'm kinda' lazy, so I don't reinvent my wheel that often.

Now, I do like Titler, and use if for all sorts of "stuff." I have no real bones to pick with it (it never crashes on me!), but find that I can work in PS more quickly for many tasks. Guess that 20+ years of usage does pay off.

Yes i do agree PS works like a charm but not everybody owns the programm.

You make a good point, and if one can stay in one app., that is not bad.

In case the OP did not have PS, there were links to some pre-made Grids for them in that article. I really ought to do one each for all possible Aspect Ratios, but then those could also be Scaled, as is required - they're just a bunch of Stroked Paths.
