joshtownsend Oct 20, 2009 10:58 AM (in response to Eric Addison)COOL. Now we have to wait...what 6 months for CS5? That'll be 18 months right?
Too bad bad it'll be 4-6 months after that till we get the updates thats make CS5 work as good as CS4 does with 4.1
So one year from now we will be rockin......

Ahhh...come on, Josh...give'em a chance. You never know - CS5 may come rock solid out of the box. Let's think positive!

4. Re: Premiere Pro CS5 64 bit native...
joshtownsend Oct 21, 2009 6:37 AM (in response to Eric Addison)I know.... your right. I'd be more comfortable if they released a public beta months before release like they did with CS3. That way bugs can get worked out.
Actually my biggest concern are plug-in's which all have to be rewritten to 64 bit. All of 'em. Remember Looks took 3-4 months to work with CS4 and only recently got Colorista to work in Prpro CS4. I consider those two as essential.
I read a lot of people saying that this would be the first true 64-bit NLE. But many people forget Sony Vegas was released as a 64 bit app for free as a .1 update.
But I will think positive. This will definately help a ton, especially if they can include the GPU renderer we're all so excited about. Hell I can wait a year for all that. I'm really excited about After Effects going 64 bit. That is more needed than Premiere going 64.

JSS1138 Oct 21, 2009 8:39 AM (in response to joshtownsend)Looks took 3-4 months to work with CS4 and only recently got Colorista to work in Prpro CS4. I consider those two as essential.
I would assume that all plug-ins would need to be 64 bit to work with Premiere. I'm no programmer, but I can imagine that a 32 bit plug-in simply would not work in a 64 bit NLE.
I do agree that Looks and Colorista are essential to my productions. So Dennis (at el), if you guys want my upgrade money, please make sure Red Giant has whatever they need to produce 64 bit plug-ins by the time CS5 is released. A "months later" schedule is not acceptable. Concurrent releases are what is needed and wanted here. I know you can't control third party schedules, but you can work with the companies to get them whatever they need ahead of time so releases are simultaneous.

6. Re: Premiere Pro CS5 64 bit native...
Stan Jones Oct 21, 2009 9:00 AM (in response to JSS1138)Posts on an AE list noted that the plugin houses would be burning the midnight oil. One of the plugin creators agreed, and added that part of the payoff of 64 bit only code would benefit them also - needing only to write for 64, not 64 and 32.

7. Re: Premiere Pro CS5 64 bit native...
joshtownsend Oct 21, 2009 9:30 AM (in response to Stan Jones)I agree Adobe made the right decision going with 64 bit only for the future. I guessing it'll make all our lives easier if Adobe didn't have to deal with two versions of the software.

8. Re: Premiere Pro CS5 64 bit native...
John T Smith Oct 22, 2009 9:32 AM (in response to Eric Addison)So, depending on just how long it takes Adobe to finalize CS5 in 64bit, it looks like "some time" in mid-2010?
Since Win7 SP1 should be out by then, that will actually work well for MY plans to build a new i7 computer next year
I'll wait until all/most of the bugs are worked out and then buy (well... most, I guess... no large program is ever without ALL bugs)
That will also be plenty of time (again, for ME) to buy when the other vendors have had a chance to issue new drivers & plug-ins
In the meantime, I will keep reading all Win7 and, later, CS5 messages to learn what to do... and what NOT to do

9. Re: Premiere Pro CS5 64 bit native...
wgrayson Jan 23, 2010 8:53 AM (in response to Eric Addison)I don't know if any is still monitoring this thread, but I have a question regarding 64 bit functionality in the upcoming CS5. So, does that mean it will NOT run at all in a 32 bit environment? Reason I ask: I have two win7 machines. One runs 32 Win 7 Pro, the other runs Win 7 Pro 64. I'd like to use CS5 on both machines as part of my network. Thanks in advance.
W!

Jeff Bellune Jan 23, 2010 8:58 AM (in response to wgrayson)A 64-bit application will not run at all under a 32-bit operating system.

11. Re: Premiere Pro CS5 64 bit native...
wgrayson Jan 24, 2010 2:24 PM (in response to Jeff Bellune)Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought. And it is an absolutely inefficient in my case to upgrade to win7 64 bit because I'd have to buy a brand new Win 7 64 bit OS. Upgrades from Win 7 32 bit to 64 bit is extremely difficult, especially if your Win 7 is an upgrade from Vista.
The good news: something tells me CS4 is going to be selling EXTREMELY CHEAP in the next few months!

Richard Crook Feb 18, 2010 6:26 AM (in response to wgrayson)CS4 SHOULD sell cheap anyway. The most horrible upgrade ever!! I reverted back to CS3 and never looked back. The ability to remove all effects feature in CS4 was the only thing I missed. The lag time and glitches with encoding to Quicktime totally make CS4 worthless to me.
I'll wait for CS5 to come around and read the reviews on it, and I'll also wait for Magic Bullet to upgrade with it as well. But it seems that there's not reason to go from CS3 to CS5 UNLESS you're using native RED....am I way off here?

So wrong...there will be plenty of reasons. Do you realize this will speed up everything you do??

of course, I'm an employee but I think that the answer to your question here is yes, there are reasons to upgrade to the next version other than RED. BTW, we do native RED in CS4.
The next version will offer a number of things, but I think the biggest thing we can point to is performance. Native 64 bit apps is part of the magic.
Everyone of course should do their homework, gather information and make an informed decision. We hope to be able to provide as many answers as we can when it does become available

Richard Crook Feb 18, 2010 8:13 AM (in response to tclark513)So wrong huh? Are we debating about a program that's not even released yet? Like I said, let's wait for the software to be released before we go down that road, lol.
